Fellas, I've never hunted turkeys before , and this may just be the year, but I cannot seem to find any 2012 turkey regs... now the IDNR site lists 2011-2012 pdf download, but it makes no mention what so ever regarding the 2012 spring season.....Fellas I'm 52 and really miss those hunting and trapping regs books they use to publish, it was easy to access and carry, and I'm kinda wondering since the lack of an updated site, and now lack of reg books too.... are they doing this in hopes of collecting more fines? from those who will find it difficult to remain informed on the reg changes?.............Boo to the DNR for tossing the books, and you ,in my opinion .have done a dis-service to us all and hunting within Indiana in general. I am about your age and would just assume the DNR would use the money to acquire property as apposed to printing reg books. That being said, if I am in wally world and the have the hunting guides on the counter, I will pick one up. I am not sure how much the DNR spends on publications. Likely the Bass Proshop ad on the inside cover picked up a good chunk of the cost.

I will definitely go with the wide sit and climb. I have also noticed the ol man stand does leave its mark in trees. Thanks for the information guys. I have read that a lot of guys buy the lone wolf climber and then add the summit seat to it, because they say the lone wolf seat isn't the most comfortable thing to sit in all day. Please let us know how u like the wide seat and if you modify it.

I am the size of the above two guys. I have a viper, ol man and Lone Wolfe sit and climb. I spend as much time in a stand as 99% of other deer hunters. Here are my thoughts: Viper is the most comfortable for an all day sit but it isnt very quiet and I don’t feel as secure in it. I have had it lock up and the bottom fall down.
Lone wolf is hands down the most secure and quietest. If your butt is as big as mine, the standard climber will be tight to sit very long in. The rail to sit on doesn’t make a very good shooting rail. It is my go to short archery hunt stand.
For an all day gun sit I use the olman top with gun rail and the lone wolf bottom. If I had the opportunity to buy a Lone Wolf at cost I would take it but might go with the wider model.
Ps I do notice the olman takes a toll on a trees bark over time

My buddy just bought the Carbon Elite. I use my dads old Hunter (pre-10 point). His is lighter, faster, narrower, and very accurate but, surprisingly my dads is quieter. Buddy thinks a 40yard shot is no problem for his but I don't think I would try over 30. We took them out a few times this year but never got a shot. I cant remember ever taking a deer after Christmas.

I will likely once or twice more for deer and give late turkeys a try. Have never taken an animal this late in the season but I have hope.

Already use Hevi-shot for turkeys and Copper solid slugs but don't like the idea of it being mandated. For me, $20 annually, will be money well spent. (hope the use it to resurface the perimeter roads)
Hot TIP. Best time to hunt Big Oaks is during a Colts game (when they are winning). Seems some people would rather watch their favorite football team than deer hunt.....go figure.

The closest place to indy to hunt is in indy.....Ft Harrison State park. Be sure and put in for the hunt this summer. Other than that you might try Atterbury Fish and Wildlife and then Morgan Monroe and Yellowood State Forests.
ps If there is ever a deer reduction hunt at Eagle Creek city park it should be great!

I couldn't adjust to 'em. Got bifocals. I like that clear line of demarcation. Of course I don't look as hip as I would have by going seamless. i eventually did get used to the progressives but had so much head movement trying to find the "sweet spot" my neck would get sore. i gave up and went the bifocal route. Then I modified them and had the near distance area made smaller but just big enough to read my phone (a little more than half normal size). Any brick and mortar eyeglass shop (Walmart, Ossip) will set the bifocal lower however, my favorite place to buy glasses on line (Zenni) will not.

Anyone know if the Hornady Leverlutions bullets load and shoot okay in the Ruger 77/44? Yes they do!

Congrats West! The deer were grouped up yesterday. We saw about a dozen. I know its hard to imagine but I actually over dressed. I would have been fine if it were below zero! Took deer too but did not post as I think my count for the year is now correct.
