I mentioned this in a reply to daworz regarding his issues from knee replacement.
Four weeks ago today, we received a call from my wife's sister-in-law about her SIL. Her SIL had collapsed from a heart attack after their church service. (She's in her late 30s and has three kids under the age of four) Their church has one of the defibrillator packs and fortunately two nurses were standing outside of the ladies room, and they both knew how to use this device. When they checked her she had no heart beat. They shocked her, got her heart started, and continued CPR until the EMTs arrived. She was transported to the Putnam County Hospital where they quickly determined that she needed help beyond what they could offer. They Life-lined her to St Vincent Hospital in Indy. She was placed on life support as she was not able to breath on her own and there was no brain activity.
On Monday they did further tests and called a Neurologist in to test for brain activity. He performed two tests and determined that she had no blood supply to her brain and there was no brain activity. The family members and friends present said some prayers and said their goodbyes with the expectation that they would never see her again. She has designated that she is an organ donor so her husband had a decision to make that night. Here's the great part. I started to type "unbelievable part" but I don't think that applies if you have faith. At 3am her husband received a call that she was awake and responding to their commands. She was following their fingers with her eyes and squeezing their hands. All of the "specialists" were there and couldn't believe it. The Neurologist said he had never seen anything like it in his career. She was awake and for sure not brain dead. That is flat out a miracle folks!!
After things calmed down they started in with additional testing. She was stable but still had a breathing tube and feeding tube. After they removed the breathing tube they did a heart cath and determined that she had two significant blockages that they were able to stint. After that everything was removed and they determined that she could go home a few days later.
She is now at home with her family. There are several folks helping with the kids, meals, housework, etc. She is going through PT and will start cardio PT soon. The only memory loss is from the point of her heart attack through early Tuesday morning when God brought her back. I think He erased that short spell for a reason. From a diagnosis of death to donating organs to where she is right now is absolutely incredible. God is good and miracles do happen.
Just thought I would share this incredible story.
There was also a significant event that same Sunday morning. My brother was headed to work in Crawfordsville at 5am that Sunday morning when he drove by a home that was on fire. There were no lights on so he knew that any occupants were still sleeping. He pulled in while calling 911 and ran to the door. He pounded on the door and woke an elderly couple that was sound asleep. He got them out and the fire department showed up a few minutes later. God had him at the right place at the right time that morning.
