Anyone Else Having an Awful Deer Season? Yes! Last year was awesome and the year before better. Guess I was just spoiled.

some rifled choke tubes claim to stabilize foster slugs (and when I used them many years ago they did help): www.ableammo.com/catalog/remington-choke-tube-extended-19616-extendedrifled-stainless-p-88187.htmlOn the other hand sabot type slugs are designed for rifled barrels for best accuracy. FWIW my taxi uses foster slugs in a fully rifled barrel. When I asked him about going against recommendations and wearing out the rifling, he thought it would be unlikely he would ever shoot the gun that much.....to each his own

So instead of listening to advice I gave my buddy, who wants to start going deer hunting with us, he bought a new 1187 with turkey barrel and a rifled choke tube to use. He also bought a scope that I helped him I am wondering if anyone has ever had any experience with a rifled choke tube, what shot better sabots or rifled slugs, I know every gun is different and your results probably will not be the same as what he gets. I am just looking for some kind of direction to start in so we can start in the right direction and he wont have to spend $100 to get to a baseline point. Wish he woulda just got a 870 combo. Thanks for any tips. Nothing like waiting for the last minute, which really aggravates me, but he has been a good friend of mine for many years and the other guys in the group are the brother and father of a bestfriend we lost a couple years back so it means alot to me to get him involved not only to introduce him to hunting but also to relive and here some great stories of our lost friend, I think it really helps his dad. I had used a choke tube on 11/87. Used cheap Winchester foster type slugs with it. Works great to 60 yards. Beyond that the pattern opens up too much. Foster slugs make big holes and put deer down quick! Great brush setup.

We hunted 22 yesterday saw nothing. Seemed like most trucks passing us on the way out had deer.

Great Buck Kevin, Congrats Buddy! Ditto! This has not been my year! Have gone from "deer slayer" last year to "deer agitator" this year

In about a dozen areas I've hunted there, have always been able to at least text. Sometimes get 3 or 4 bars!

How does that work? Also where do you go in the morning to find out if can hunt? As in a location so i could know how long of drive. Do you have to hunt all day? I would be interested for the a.m. There is a random draw for empty spots at 7 for archery. Most people get in.

i am the only Indiana hunter I know that ever took a grouse with a bow. It was about 30 years ago near Nashville. Was the most yummy game I have ever had. Haven't seen one in years..

I am eager to take my 450 bushmaster into the deer stand for the first time, but lots of good bow hunting is still left. I'm envious

I was there Saturday and saw the usual amount of deer there I normally see. Hunter numbers might have been up slightly. There were 19 that signed in before 0630.

I remember treebark, Baker stands, foster slugs and paper maps. Only thing that had a battery was a flaslight.
