Sad that deer hunting has become such a jealousy filled sport. I can remember when people could hunt their own property and the neighbors, retrieve deer to where it died, and help each other with dragging, story telling, etc. Now, stay on your own property, better make a quick kill shot, and don't tell anyone else about a real good buck you harvest because that green eyed jealousy will pop out and stories to go with it. Don't really understand it. It is still just a deer. Apparently, the killing of a deer especially one with lots of bone "defines" a hunter with unreal comparisons to go with it on who is "the better man". Leave it alone and stay on your own property. Continue to be friendly and a true neighbor when the opportunity presents itself but don't push it. I can't control what other do but can be responsible for me. You can't fix stupid.

Here are my best Indiana bucks. One on the far right 10 pt. is the best. About 125 gross. ' Others are close. Sorry for the cell phone pic. This would be my best that came from NC close to the house on public land. Gross 139. Mount way to high on a wall to take the pic so I took it down. No monsters but I'm proud of each one.

I heard that if I buy a non resident bundle license which is one buck and two does and then want another doe that I then have to pay $150 for a first doe vs the $25 for the subsequent doe tag. Anyone know for sure? I ususally buy the buck and three doe tags. $150 buck, $150 1st doe, and $25 x 2 for the additional does = $350.00 total. $295 for the bundle + $150 for an additional doe = $445.00. I don't always use all the tags (licenses) but have them in case. If the additional doe does count as a 1st doe license bought after the bundle license, then I will just buy individually. Doesn't make sense that the bundle wouldn't count but wanted to make sure before purchasing. Hope all that made sense, Thanks Herbie

Put a new Burris 2x7x32mm handgun scope on my .308 encore pistol last weekend. Sighted it in at 70 yds off the back porch. Real good dead center pattern. Replaced a Leupold 2x20mm. My old eyes needed something more. Also put some new Pachmyre grips on the pistol and really like them. Sighted my 12 ga in at the same distance. 3 holes touching in the black!!! Could have covered all three holes with a silver dollar. The 12 is my backup. We got about a month and let the freezer filling begin.

Bass are hitting VERY good on topwater right now here in my home lake. Surface temps are about 71. Fished a tournament Saturday. Winning boat had 5 spots that weighed 18+ lbs. My partner and I had 13# with spots. Our tournament was over at 3pm. Another tournament on the same lake was over at 4 so we went and watched their weigh in. Winning boat had 20.75# total weight of 5 spotted bass. Unreal!!!! Everyone throwing super spooks and other top waters. Nothing like a blow up from a big spot for sure. You all might want to try it. Oh, didn't matter if they were breaking or not. Just throw and walk that dog.

lwb, we ate lunch in Kokomo. Wished I'd known you lived there as I would have loved to have sat and drank a cup of coffee with you. Throbak, you gonna show me how great the deer hunting is sometime? LOL I never pass up an opportunity. kevin, I hunt in Otisco area every year. I have heard from some of the locals that the Clark State Forest, or forestry as they call it, has some good hunting but private land is where it's at. I stay at my brother's house in Charlestown and at my landowner friend's house in Otisco each year. You must be in Scott county? Oh, that smell....that was the smell of fear in those bucks knowing I was back in the neighborhood. LOL If I ever get finanacially able, I will would love to buy 100 acreas up there with about 50 acreas of woods. My landowner friend has that and the 50 acreas is 1/2 pasture and 1/2 alfalfa field this year. That alfalfa should really draw them in. He is not cutting any of it this year. The edges of the woods and the field where he drives is thick clover. Anyone ever get down in the mountains just give me a call and show you around. Great fishing for trout and bass. Scenery is absolutely beautiful. 7000 acre lake in the valley surrounded by a ring of mountains. Pretty good bear hunting also with hounds.

My wife and I travelled to South Bend Indiana last week to visit my daughter. We left here last Thursday evening and travelled to Charlestown IN across the river from Louisville and stayed the night with my brother. Got up in the morning and ate breakfast with my landowner buddy. Took off and got to South Bend late afternoon. Travelled on 31 from Indy to South Bend. Beautiful country with field after field of beans and corn. Sad that the corn was mostly stunted and brown. Strange that some fields would be stunted and brown and field right next to it green and taller. We toured Notre Dame University. What a fantastic university. Very faith based. My SIL is in law school there. Daughter is a FT RN and also goes to U of I and will graduate in December as a Family Nurse Practicioner. Going home we stopped in Kokomo at a Harley Dealer and bought a couple of T shirts. Picture of a daisy duke's girl washing a tractor, corn, barn with a Harley in front of it. From Indy we travelled I74 to Cincinnati and then I75 to Knoxville and I40 to Asheville where I've been all week for training for work. 600 miles that day. Going up was 700 from the house to South Bend. The entire state looked great for deer hunting! From Kokomo to South Bend looked good as lots of fields and limited woods should be easy to pattern deer when the crops are in. South eastern IN had lots of woods and I understand the highest deer density. Anyways, the wife and I loved our trip through Indiana. Looking forward to my annual trip to the southern part that I do each year coming up. You all have a fantastic place to hunt!!!!!!!!!!! and I love it there. My daughter said she started to buy me a T shirt that said "Hoosier Daddy" but was afraid I wouldn't wear it. LOLLLL I'd love it.

Sea Foam added periodically to my '67 SS, lawn mower, bass boat, etc. Really cleans the carbon deposits out of the engine that ethanol is famous for doing. I put half a can in my truck and the other half in my wife's car. Noticeable difference in idling and running after running out a tank of gas with this mixed in.

Tom, No problem getting you hooked up on a dog hunt for sure. Season opens on 10/15/2012 a Monday. To really be in on it you would want to hunt that first week from Monday thru Saturday. Pretty sure you'd get one. 300+ I can't guarantee just as no one can guarantee me a 150" + buck. Both groups of guys that are friends that dog hunt killed 300 lb + bears last year. One was 360 I think and the other was closer to 400. If interested for sure, let me know. No motel or eats to buy. You can stay at my house and I'll feed you breakfast and dinner. No cost. I'll probably hunt with them on the Saturday the 20th. Have to save my vacation time for Indiana deer hunting. Maybe Kentucky too? LOL East coast swamps has the really huge body and numbers of bear. Here's a chart to look at. 800+ lb black bear is unreal. Local guy went to the coast two years ago and killed a 632#......from the ground.....gotta get on your hands and knees through the swamp tunnels out there. No trees much for the bear to tree in. Bay them on the ground. Let me know. Check out the picture on this link. www.ncwildlife.org/Portals/0/Hunting/Documents/NC_Bear_Weights_Summary.pdf

Sounds like a great hunt with lots of sightings. Some fellers around here were buying barrells of cookies and candy from a factory in TN. Putting it out all year at bait sights and then when dog season opened there were plenty of "welfare" bears coming regularly. The DNR has actively put a stop to that as baiting is not allowed here. GA mountains across the line don't allow dog running. Friend of mine in north GA has harvested a few 500+ black bears from a tree stand with canned salmon for bait. Training season starts here in about a week. 1st weekend should be great with multiple trees. Congrats on your successful hunt.
