This hunt started out on this site, a trade hunt deer for bear. Traveled NW of Montreal to a public area known as a ZEC. My friends there had 3 baits set up for us, all of them with multiple bears hitting them regularly. Game cams showed several bears over 300 lbs. We didn't kill any that big though. Lost a day and half because of high wind and rain, and tagged on a 250 dressed boar and a 220 lb. sow white a white marking on her chest. Saw several moose, and a small wolf pup along the way. Between the two of us, we had over 40 bear sightings in 5 days of hunting. The barrels had cookies and donuts. Some of the bears were very aggressuve and attempted to own the baits. Had bears in our trees twice, and several encounters with a mean sow with 3 cubs, that provide several close encounters. We went out of the way to keep from having to kill her or use the bear spray on her. He's a few pictures of the trip: Just noticed the date on the picture is off by a few years. Hunt took place last week.

Sounds like the place is over run with bears. That is a lot of bears seen.
Good to see Wade's face again..
What bear killing hunting tool did you finally decide on?

Sounds like a great hunt with lots of sightings. Some fellers around here were buying barrells of cookies and candy from a factory in TN. Putting it out all year at bait sights and then when dog season opened there were plenty of "welfare" bears coming regularly. The DNR has actively put a stop to that as baiting is not allowed here. GA mountains across the line don't allow dog running. Friend of mine in north GA has harvested a few 500+ black bears from a tree stand with canned salmon for bait. Training season starts here in about a week. 1st weekend should be great with multiple trees. Congrats on your successful hunt.

Tom, No problem getting you hooked up on a dog hunt for sure. Season opens on 10/15/2012 a Monday. To really be in on it you would want to hunt that first week from Monday thru Saturday. Pretty sure you'd get one. 300+ I can't guarantee just as no one can guarantee me a 150" + buck. Both groups of guys that are friends that dog hunt killed 300 lb + bears last year. One was 360 I think and the other was closer to 400. If interested for sure, let me know. No motel or eats to buy. You can stay at my house and I'll feed you breakfast and dinner. No cost. I'll probably hunt with them on the Saturday the 20th. Have to save my vacation time for Indiana deer hunting. Maybe Kentucky too? LOL East coast swamps has the really huge body and numbers of bear. Here's a chart to look at. 800+ lb black bear is unreal. Local guy went to the coast two years ago and killed a 632#......from the ground.....gotta get on your hands and knees through the swamp tunnels out there. No trees much for the bear to tree in. Bay them on the ground. Let me know. Check out the picture on this link. www.ncwildlife.org/Portals/0/Hunting/Documents/NC_Bear_Weights_Summary.pdf
