I'd trade out between the S&W Mod. 1500 bolt action in .270, Winchester 70 bolt in 30-06, or Browning BLR in .308 that are in the safe. I've used the S&W (bought new in 1982 with "made in Japan to S&W specifications" on the barrel a lot. Nail driver. The Winchester I used once in Bayfield Co. Wisconsin maybe 18 years ago and brought home two does. The BLR I used once maybe 15 years ago down in Georgia and brought home two bucks. All have Leupold scopes. I am partial to the S&W.....the other two are too pretty to use. LOL

Woody, You might try Googling "Mossberg barrel for Remington 870". Mossberg makes a LOT of barrels that fit the 870. I bought a rifled barrel with cantilever scope mount many years ago for my 870 that came with a smooth full choke barrel. Still shoots super accurate. Barrel says Mossberg for Remington 870 on it.

TC Encore pistol in .308 caliber most likely on opening day. Will also have my 870 with rifled barrel and Leupold scope as backup for my week long adventure.

Wow. Super nice buck. Congratulations. I was blessed with a short hunt a few years ago. Climbed into my stand, looked at my watch and it was 3:05PM, turned around after setting the seat, lit a cig, and heard a noise beside me to the left. Looked and saw it was a buck walking out of the thicket less than 25 yards away. Put the cig out to my right, pulled out my pistol, and turned to my left. Shot him. Been in the stand less than 2 min. Big 10 pt. right at 140 class. I think he heard the climber going up the tree and came to investigate? Unreal.

I've hunted the same 90 acre farm for about 16 years now. We used to could hunt the adjoining 250 acres of hardwoods but some dandies out of Louisville leased it from the neighbor. Oh well... Used to have another 200 acre place that was mostly fields and bordered a quarry where they didn't allow hunting. That disappeared for us a few years ago also. Still, I am very blessed to have the 90 acres to hunt. Myself, the landowner, and two locals have hunted together all these many years and I love the friendship, fellowship, and hunting with them. I am blessed to be thought well of and they look forward to me coming each year. Landowner is now 70. One of these days we'll lose that place too. His son invited me to hunt his 100 acres last year and went coon hunting with me 2 nights also. His son has accompanied his father on an annual spring fishing trip to my home in the NC mountains for a couple of years now for large 3# + spotted bass and take home around 50 each year. Maybe our friendship will continue also. When it ends.....it ends. I have great memories and can't see ever tainting it by being vain, envious, or disheartened. Man oh man, that Indiana deer hunting sure is special.

Link didn't work? Bass will be on the beds on this coming full moon both spots and largemouth with a little warm weather. Water temp is up to 56 degrees this afternoon. My friend and his partner weighed in a 5 fish limit yesterday of 23# anchored with a 6.50# spot. YES, a spot. He released after the tournament. 1st place had 28+# anchored with a 10# largemouth. Caught them on line thru swim baits fishing docks in shallow water. Unreal ? I caught 5 spots this afternoon on spinner baits and cranks in a 2 hour trip. Fishing is getting ready to get real real real good.

Interesting. I fish a few times a week after work and try to on the weekend. Caught 5 spots today between church sessions. All five went between 2.5 and 3 pounds each. Mortality rate....100% as I fileted them. Tournaments are held on our lake every Saturday and before long evening pot tournaments every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. I pretty much never see any dead bass floating. Tournament fisherman are penalized for a dead fish. Aerator on all the time and when the water gets hotter they carry ice on the boat to add to the water. Some have needles to deflate the air bladder if out of deep water.

Went Sunday after church for a couple of hours. My buddy and I caught 1 largemouth and 4 spots. All over 2 1/2 # each. Tournament last Saturday took 20+ lbs to win. My buddy's son came in 2nd with 19.67#. 5 fish limit. Caught on lipless crankbaits on creekrun flats. Unreal. Water is still only around 50 surface temp. Supposed to be in the high 60's here tomorrow. Guess where I'll be LOL

I cant seem to register on that site. I have tried .... and tried again. Sent requests to look at the account and have not gotten anywhere. So .... I have no idea what goes on over there. They used to leave the forum open so you could read without being logged in ..... seems they have it locked down now. I tried many times also to register and nothing happened. Did an email to the appropriate email address given on the site requesting the status and also if there was something I did wrong. Never got a reply. Oh well, this is a great site ran by a person whom I have never personally met but I regard as a truly christian person that runs the site in a fair and professional manner. Thanks

Wow. That is like 15 acres max of huntable property not in a field for $2400. Translates to $160 per acrea lease fee. Whooooooaaah

Only met one IN DNR officer. I was heading home in my truck. Wife and grandkids in a car in front of me. We were gonna eat before crossing the river. I had two bucks in the back of the truck. One I killed and the other a local friend killed and gave to me for the meat. Cold weather and both were fresh. Both were tagged, had been checked in, and had the metal bands attached. He happened to be in stopped traffic on the right lane and I was in slow traffic in the left lane. He turned on his blinker, pulled in back of me, and blue lights came on. I pulled in the parking lot and he asked if I knew the buck limit in the state of IN. I said yes, ONE. I explained that a local friend gave me the other buck for meat. Talked a pretty good while. I told him the friend's name, where he lived, phone #, and where we hunted. He asked what was in the cooler. I told him two does boned out meat and the metal tags were hanging in the truck on my shifter. He said "you are a lucky man...have a good day". Very professional, nice, and courteous.
We had a local GW that wrote a 10 year old boy a ticket for shooting a squirrel out of a tree in his front yard a couple of days before the season opened. He happened to be driving by. My brother was living at my house which is the homeplace for about 6 months after moving from GA. He had not changed his drivers license to NC yet. He did have a NC hunting license. He was off work one day and took my beagles to go rabbit hunting and the season was open. He made it 50 yards from my driveway with three dogs on a leash and same GW drove by. Wrote him a ticket for hunting with illegal license. Local clerk of court threw it out. This GW was known for a filthy mouth and aggressive nature. He checked three guys from a neighboring town across the mountain while fishing on our lake three different times in one day out on the lake. When they got to the boat ramp 1/2 mile from my house, same GW checked them again and wanted to search their truck also for alcohol. An argument started, the GW swore at them, and he tried to kick one of the guys in the privates. He got knocked out on the spot in the parking lot of the ramp. Quite a stir for this little mountain community. Lots of witnesses in the parking lot. The three guys drove across the mountain and turned themselves in to the local sheriff there. Court time came along and they were found innocent due to self defense. The GW was transferred to another county and either resigned or was fired about a year later. There are good and bad in every profession. The bad need to find something else to do and thank God for the good ones in each and every profession.
