Congrats on the recovery, Woody. Can't wait for pics. This thread is going to be heating up quite a bit, I think. I saw 6 deer this morning, 4 bucks and two does and those bucks were chasing those does all over the thicket. After getting down, I checked my trail camera on the way out and had two shooters on my trail camera. One of them was cruising the thicket at 230. I think the magical time of the year is here, boys and girls. Schedule those vacation days for this week and next or start coming down with a cough . Good luck to everyone and stay safe out there.

Just had a small 8 come through chasing a doe and grunting about every third or fourth step and about 5 mins behind came a small 6 pointer doing the same thing.

I use the homemade scent killer. 16 Oz peroxide and 16 Oz distilled water 1/4 cup baking soda and small squirt of hunter specialties. Green soap. I also use earth scent wafers in tub to store. I recently purchased some dirt scent essential oil. On archery talk they said to add one teaspoon per 160z of homemade and it will be same as autumn gold scent killer. Haven't tried it yet but it was just 16 dollars for 8 Oz shipped. Don't buy it online. I bought the earth scent scent away at Meijer and it was 10.99 for 15 oz. Not only is that stuff good for a cover scent- it smells like heaven to me. Lol, idk why but I love that stuff. It makes me feel like a man and stuff and feel like I could sneak up on big foot or something. I refuse to buy the odorless stuff

Well yesterday, I talked to the landowner of one of my hot spots and he let me know they had decided to log the small wood lot where my stand is at. I was almost heartbroken when he told me that. I have a few pictures of a big buck and lots of does at this stand and I am just wondering what you all think about the effect it will have on the deer and their movements? It's not like they stay in the woods where I am at. They all come from the big woods on neighboring properties to the north and east of my stand but they all come out into the fields around my stand usually. With this cutting and working going on there for at least another week, would you think my season is shot at this stand? Or should I still give it a shot?

I have to work today. The weather doesn't look all that great, so I'm not too upset about it but I'd still rather be hunting. Hunted yesterday morning and evening and saw several little bucks out cruising but no does and no shooters. I think this week is when it'll really take off and get really good. Idk how the weather will affect the daytime movement, though. Hopefully it won't hurt it and they will still be out chasing. Good luck to everyone out there

I think it's definitely going to take off this week. I hunted yesterday morning and yesterday evening and saw several little bucks out cruising for does. Haven't had any shooters come by or on my trail cameras yet, but I think it'll start to pick up this week. Good luck and stay safe, everyone.

A deer processor with a frequent rewards club?? Sign me up! lol, I go to Buckstop processing in Redkey, Indiana and I highly recommend them to anyone around the area. They are very reasonable and I have never had a problem with anything. It's based off the weight of the deer and then any extras(summer sausage, jerky, breakfast sausage) are pretty reasonably priced too. I HIGHLY recommend the debs breakfast sausage. That stuff is amazing. I use it for biscuits and gravy and my kids can't get enough of it.

Man, all this action that people have been reporting the last couple days has got me pumped for tomorrow. I've got the day off and will definitely be in the stand until at least noon, maybe even an all day sit. Good luck out there to you all and keep the posts coming. It's helping me get through the day here at work!

Congratulations to you and to your son on harvesting such a great deer. Even more to be happy about is that you are raising your son up to be a good, honest, and respectful man. 190 inch deer or not, that is more than something to be proud of. Do you have any pics of this amazing trophy?
As far as the naysayers go- There's always those who can't be happy for anyone but themselves. Don't let them get to you. Karma has a knack for working its way back to these people.

Hope the high pressure that is in the far east stays far east. If that happens the hurricane will track further east. European models are showing it moving east. Who knows, I'm not a patient man. Checking the weather every 15 mins like it is going to change! Lol, I am doing that, too, along with checking the live from the stand thread. Geez.. Is it 5pm yet?

A double stand when I hunt it by myself. We also used to have a few permanent stands when I was younger that were made to be extra large for my grandpa to hunt and they were so big, I could lay down on the platform and snooze.

Not sure how old your nephew is but if my nieces or nephews 10 to 17 yrs want to shoot any deer I let them. I don't want them to not shoot a deer because it's not up to my standards. No kid wants to hunt and be told they can't shoot a peticular deer because of restrictions. They won't go back again. Just my two cents. I agree with you to a point. i think there should be a certain age cutoff for kids where you tell them they are old enough to start hunting bigger bucks. If you do this at too young of an age, they could lose interest or it could lessen the amount of fun they get from hunting. I don't think this is an across the board age that we should set for every child, either. Certain kids might be ready for this restriction at a much younger age than other kids. I will never forget one guy who hunted a property with my family and I. He always was a bit of a jerk just because we hunted the same ground he did and we had permission to be there just the same as he did, too. That made him very angry and he never hesitated to show it whenever we saw him at the farm. Anyways, my younger cousin took a pretty decent 8 point. It wasn't a monster by any means, but it probably scored about 115-120. This was only my cousins second or third deer ever and his first ever buck. He dropped this buck with one shot and he was very excited and very pleased with his harvest. As we loaded the deer into the trailer, this other guy was just coming back to his truck and he came to look at the deer. When he did, the gentleman said to my cousin "I can't believe you shot that little guy. I would've let him grow another year at least, maybe even two." He then proceeded to mutter some choice words under his breath on his way to his own truck about bucks not ever given a chance to grow. Needless to say, I was pretty upset. My cousin, who was only probably 14 or 15 at the time, was too upset to say anything at all the whole way back to camp. Here's a 50 some year old man behaving like that to a kid who had been on cloud nine. It disgusted me. I swore right then, from that moment on, I would never, ever try to tell my son or daughter what they could/could not harvest as a trophy animal. I also believe that the same is true for people who are new to the sport. If you are being introduced to the sport by a friend or a buddy and you are constantly being told that you can't harvest this deer or that deer because of size restrictions, how are you really ever going to get hooked on this great sport? We all would like to say our first buck was a great big deer that we to this day would not hesitate to harvest, but that is most often not the case. If a person who is new to the sport wants to harvest the first deer that walks by and they consider that a trophy, then who are we to tell them otherwise? The same goes for people who are meat hunters. This sport is already too expensive as it is, why should we tell someone who is trying to simply put meat on the table that the deer they harvested is not a trophy? Anyways. These are just my thoughts, though. To each their own. Sorry for the long post.

I had an old hunting backpack that my dad bought in the 90's that had the zippers replaced several times. It was a good hunting back pack with plenty of pockets and room for storage. However, after this weekend, I think it is time to replace it. The shoulder strap and waist strap were stitched together and they both ripped this weekend when I was loading my gear into the car. So, I figured I would ask around and see if anyone had any recommendations on a good backpack that is both durable, spacious, and reasonably priced. I like to use my pack to carry my safety harness and also my cold weather gear during the late season. I also usually carry a couple bottles of water, a sandwich or snack of some kind, and a couple spare flash lights.

I have a Remington 541 S and a 541 T. I also have a weatherby mark xxii. My favorite, though, is the 541 T. It was my dads gun and it is a tack driver. I know that if I miss with it, it's my fault, not the guns. Never any doubt.
