I don't read of problems with them on the various sites - hopefully this won't be a sign of future things to come. Me too. I have two other Savage Rifles and they are both fine guns. 5 to 7 years old

Take it back, or call Savage. There is no excuse for that. They should make it right without question. Done. I didn't take possession of the rifle. The sale didn't happen. The shop owner was 100% in support of me. It is going back

I have owned some real nice ones. Great fit and finish and shoot lights out. Until today. Worked a trade with my local gun shop. My Model 12 (.204) for a new Model 14/114 (.300 Win Mag) with some cash to him. Stock was poor and the barrel was not blued well at all. The bolt would not seat into the receiver without force. The rifle was ugly. Vertical movement of the barrel of at least 1". I have another 14/114 chambered for .243. It is a fine looking and fine shooting rifle. Real disappointed in Savage.

They were out in force last night in the corn. Came out of bedding area around 5 and walked down hill to feed field. Watched them from the house. Coming out earlier each night. Amazing how they know when season is winding down. Yes, I have noticed a big upswing in daylight sightings last week or so. They must have a calendar..... lol Isn't that the truth! Wait until 1/2/17 when I drop a ton of burn corn in my back field

Will, How do you hunt Big Oaks? Climber? What zones if you don't mind saying? I use a climber down there. As far as areas go it's a crap shoot year after year. Tradionally a few areas have the highest deer kills and are usually the hardest to get in. We have primary areas we try for, but we always have a back up plan too. Southern areas usually fill up fast and the northern units it's don't. This is because mainly of the drive time to get there. To me the age structure is better up north, but the deer density is lower and vice versa for the south. Thanks Will. Pretty much my experience with the zones. Thanks for the response

Will, any idea how many hours you hunted this year? You da man Will! No idea as I don't keep track. Im going to start next year. I think I made about 15 sets over here in Ohio with about a 4 hour average and seen 82 deer with 1 harvest and 2 misses. Indiana I don't have a clue other than 4x at my parents. I shot 7 in Indiana this year: 2 @ big oaks, 3 at Versailles, and a couple on private. I've just been going out trying to get my daughter her first. Will, How do you hunt Big Oaks? Climber? What zones if you don't mind saying?

Live from the cleaning table. Just cleaned and lubed my muzzle loader. Will hunt bonus season with my grandson. Long story, but he really needs one. I'll do my best to put him on one (again). Fantasy football playoffs won over an afternoon hunt. Hunters stay safe and warm.

LOL! No you haven't. I have no idea what you are talking about! And yes, hunting priorities are subject to change Like I told you when you left, go on and start building your kennels. Sit in a tree all day hoping maybe to see a deer and get up at 0' dark 30 or get up, mess around, have some breakfast, get started when you get started. No comparison. Hunted about an hour after you left. Didn't do any better but the lemon pup cut his nose and now has zero hair around his mouth from bumping the frozen ground. He never quit hunting. That sight chase at the start must have flipped another switch. He's going to be a good one. Appreciate the compliment on the dogs. What is so impressive about your dogs is their tenacity. They have no quit. Not at all surprised about the lemon pup. He is highly motivated and very well trained. He is a keeper. Heck, all five I saw today are. Again, not surprised. It was a treat to hunt with them and watch them work

Yes the dreaded scoped shotgun. Pretty funny. After I decided to go I picked up my cased Rem V3 and put it by the door. I forgot that I had put a scope on it when my son in law borrowed it for our hunt at Big Oaks. Remembered the scope about half way. Oh @#$%! Got to the exit off I 69 and saw a cabinet shop. Went in and asked if they had any torx wrenches. Told me they were hunters too and got my scope off. Great guys and we had a good laugh. Really, really enjoyed my time today. Span has some very impressive dogs. Looking forward to hunting with him again. Next time I'll shut up and listen to the dogs! Thanks for the time Shane. I hate to admit it but I mentioned to my wife when I got home that I enjoyed it more than deer hunting. that's about like not taking your ramrod on a muzzleloader hunt or something. But I wouldn't know I've never done it. That last statement is pretty close to how I feel. LOL! No you haven't. I have no idea what you are talking about! And yes, hunting priorities are subject to change

Well took a trip to Glendale today and met jimstc . Great guy. Told him not to expect much and didn't disappoint. Conditions flat sucked. We got several up but not a whole lot of running. Like meeting an old friend. Did more taking than hunting. At one point the dogs jumped a rabbit and ran it maybe for ten minutes, no idea because we were talking and payed zero attention to what the dogs were doing. Man but it was cold out. Temps weren't that bad but the wind didn't make it fun. He only had a couple of hours to run as he had prior appointment but you have to respect a guy that drives two and a half hour on 12 hours notice to run dogs three hours and put zero effort into killing anything. Seems we are both at the point in our hunting career where we neither need or quite honestly want to kill much. I'll let him explain how he planned on shooting rabbits with a scoped shotgun. Jim, you are invited any time you want to go, you have my number. Give me a call when you get time and I'll make it happen. Anyone ever get a chance to hunt with him, jump at it. He also did make another new friend, one that just wouldn't shut up. Yes the dreaded scoped shotgun. Pretty funny. After I decided to go I picked up my cased Rem V3 and put it by the door. Got the location. 2.5 hours for me. Let me know the specifics Nothing real specific. I'll head over there about 8. Should get there about 8:45. I was over earlier this week. Jumped two pheasant, got one. Found a spot that had a bunch of rabbits. Mainly will be letting the beagles run and if we jump a pheasant, shoot it. You're more than welcome to shoot the rabbits if you want, doubt I will. My number is 317-341-3792, Shane. Give me a call when you get there if you get there later and we'll meet up. I'll leave here around 6:00 and will call you when I get there, My cell is 317.501.6575

What a curious comment? What the heck is is deer hunting morale? You hunt or don't hunt for a myriad of reasons. Weather, work, family and about a million other things. This thread is questionable at best and worthless at least. Morale? What the heck is that when it comes to dragging my butt out of bed? Go or no go has nothing to do with morale. Has everything to do with motivation and discipline. Trying to blame someone's lack of production as the reason for their answer is very interesting and transparent. I call BS on an elitist attitude. As in who gives a @#$% how big the antlers are? Some but not most regular guys couldn't care less.

Not for me. I harvest what is presented. Trophy bucks are of no concern. They are not my objective. Meat in the freezer is my objective, period. In reality, what does a "trophy" buck prove? Oh wow! I shot a big smart, mature buck. I have a gun/bow, cameras, plant food plots and provide sanctuary and water. Hunting smart is good. Not being critical at all. But the reality to me is big deal for trophy bucks. Used to drive a Corvette ZO6. Fast and beautiful. Still came down to it just being a car.......
