29 degrees and ice/rain in central IN. I could ice skate on my porch, driveway and sidewalk (if I could ice skate)

Surprisingly, it was covered by five different news outlets this morning on Google news. Well balanced reporting in the articles I read. The armed citizen was called a hero.

My limited experience is that they are fragile trees for all the reasons mentioned above. Had one die and hooked it up to the front loader on my tractor and pulled it out of the ground. Small root ball. Cut it up and burned it. Nice wood but I wouldn't plant one for any purpose

I press charges with a vengeance. Otherwise how do you stop it. Actions and consequences. Pretty basic stuff. Just ask my adult children and non adult grandchildren. Dad/Grandad is a hard %$#@ when it comes to breaking simple rules

I also was wondering how you got in. I researched it and realized no way for me. Darn it! On the contrary the show coming up at the Indy fairgrounds is open to everyone and a great show

I joined the Indiana Gun Club to learn to shoot sporting clays. Had six or so lessons with Bob Self and improved from 15% to 85%. Shot a lot of practice rounds in the meantime. Still was really bad at competition shoots but was respectable otherwise. Heck yes I can use some more instruction. I also took the two day course at the Kokomo range and it was very helpful too. Where are you located and are you certified by any sanctioning organization? Bob Self is affordable and is a good instructor. So, if you want to get paid to teach you have some competition. Lol, actually I'm good friend's with Bob. I've tried to attend the Kokomo classes and get NSCA certified but you have to be 18 (I'm still 16 so I pretty much put this up to see if there was an interest for people wanting to learn or do it) Bob's a great coach and he set a great base for me to win 2 national championships and make the all-American team. Perhaps we should hook up at the Gun Club. I can be your first project albeit a challenging one. I'll PM you my contact info

Winimac FWA. My grandson was drawn last year and I took him. Lots of turkeys up there and a great property. The staff there does a great job of managing the property. Crops, controlled burns, hinge cuts, great access trails. I will apply for him this year again. Takes me a little less than 1.5 hours to get there. North on 35. I am in northern Hamilton county

I am. Had an opportunity at a button buck and a little bitty doe but chose to pass on both. Thought this season was going to be great, put in a nice lush food plot and tried to keep pressure down. Last year I saw deer every sit but a few and this year I saw deer fewer times that I didn't last year. Not sure if it was the neighbor getting new duck ponds put in through fall, my new food plot, weather being too warm? Just wasn't seeing the deer. Oh I take it back slightly if I did see deer they were literally 5 feet off of my property line on the neighbors. My vote is the weather. It was a whole lot less than ideal. Filled my freezer with one buck, but it was hard work. Lots of hours in the blind/ stand/ground pounding with few results. Ain't it fun though? Come on October......

I, myself can't use a scope because I can't hold steady. I NEVER take an unsupported shot. If I can't brace the rifle and need to shoot offhand, I do not take the shot. There have been many times that I have pressed the forearm tightly into the side of a tree while using my fingers as a clamp. Sometimes I'll use the shooting rail on my climbing stand. As mentioned above, you shake as much with open sights. You just don't notice it. Ditto on the unsupported shot. I always have a walking stick. If that won't work in a situation, I'll go prone and use my back pack as a rest. I will take a seated shot using my knee as a rest if it is not a long shot. I'd call that a supported shot. Some may not. I practice that shot though.

If you guys are near enough to zip code 46030 I'd be glad to set up his rifle either with the scope he has or a different one. I have a 100 yard range, shooting from a covered table. Not saying that either of you can't get it set up, but was thinking that you may not have the place to get it done. Thanks for the offer. We have a place. Great!

How much has he practiced at that distance? Does he know where the bullet will hit at that distance? What about wind drift? He hasn't practiced enough and needs more than a 4 power scope. I think I convinced him to better prepare next time. If you guys are near enough to zip code 46030 I'd be glad to set up his rifle either with the scope he has or a different one. Back on the field with dad that we hunted last night. Pretty windy. We are along a ditch in the middle of the field. Good luck to you both. Yep, that wind is blowing here hard too.

Grandson and I were on my back field this afternoon. Five minutes from the end of legal light we decided to head back to the house. At the the north end of my middle field were four doe. Two big ones, two small ones. I had a 180-200 yard shot with my .243. Makeable shot. Then the ethical clock kicked in. Probably not legal daylight anymore. If I wounded one I wouldn't find her tonight. Bad example for my grandson who had my 12 gauge and he is not yet a 200 yard shooter with a rifle. So no shot for him. Nonetheless we tried to sneak up on them for the fun of it. Worked along the side of two barns, then busted. Off they went. Still was fun and a good lesson for my grandson. We still have this weekend and a reduction property to get his first deer. He is going home tomorrow and back here this weekend. Doggone hunting is good for our ethical compasses.......

I won a Savage Axis .243 in a raffle. Best $20 I ever spent! I like the little gun, but the scope on it wasn't much so I upgraded to a Nikon 3 X 9 X 40 BDC. I haven't had a chance to shoot it since the scope upgrade. I am going to buy .308 in either Savage Axis or Ruger American, which would you choose? Why? Only Ruger I owned was a .44 Mag rifle. Wasn't that accurate. Maybe it was me. Tried several different rounds. Just didn't like the rifle. Who knows? Every Savage I owned was extremely accurate and I am obsessed about accuracy. The Savage trigger is the best out of the box (mass produced) if you get the accu-trigger. Easy to adjust and a fine trigger. To me trigger pull is the key to accuracy. Go Savage if it has the accu trigger. If not, I don't have an opinion

Pretty much the same here in north central IN. 60 degrees, rain incoming and 20 mph winds with worse on the way. Got up to wake up my grandson to hunt. Checked the weather and did what the deer are doing: went back to bed

I haven't had a chance to shoot it since the scope upgrade. Based on my experience over the years with Savage it will be a shooter. Also Nikon scopes are a solid value. I have a few and never had problems
