Sweat equity, respect for the land and landowners is all I pay for the combined 624 acres of permission property I hunt.
That does include some ag on the propertirs though. Still lots of hardwoods and CRP.

I think PigeonFlyer would be a huge supporter because he doesn't seem to like firearm season at all.
I say leave it alone. Manage your own property to grow big deer. Not everyone has to shoot a 170" to have their season considered to be successful.
Just my $.02.

I firmly believe that coyotes can ruin a spot if not kept in check. My hunting neighbor said he called in several last night. He ended up with 4. I think he uses the ATN which is out of my price range. Especially since I'm only hunting coyotes a couple times a year. However, I am strongly considering getting a Wraith scope from Cabela's. Still a little expensive but, they have cheaper versions as well. Good luck on making a purchase and getting some song dogs eliminated. www.cabelas.com/shop/en/sightmark-wraith-4k-max-3-24x50-digital-rifle-scopePic my hunting neighbor sent from last night.

I just use it as a guideline. I only have a few places I hunt and they’ve all been pretty well pressured for the last three weeks. A little break might do them some good. Yeah, a break never hurts. Good for the woods and can be good for the hunter as well.

So my firearms season is over, last night I pulled out the muzzleloader, reset the scope I mounted on it last year because I mounted it the old school way (looking through the scope and eyeballing if the crosshairs were “level” and my OCD won’t let me let it go. I ran a brush through it and boy was I surprised. I thought I cleaned it pretty well after last use but I got a LOT of cr@p out of it. If the rain stops, I’m going to head out to the range at Wilbur wright and get it dialed in again. DeerCast isn’t looking optimistic for the next 10 days, so I think I’ll leave the bow in its case and just wait for next weeks mz opener. 🤷♂️ You can't always rely on Deer Cast. It showed "poor" for yesterday and I saw a pile of deer and one dandy of a buck and a dozen turkeys at my brother in laws permission farm. If I had the time off, I'd be out with my bow/crossbow for sure!

Had to come into work this morning. It was difficult getting into my truck and seeing 8 does 120 yards from my back door. Lol!
Good luck everyone! Hunt safe and God bless!

16 doe and a dozen turkeys so far. No safe shot opportunities. Holy cow! That first pile of does were on my BIL permission property and were crossing the field 200 yards out. We were sitting together in a ground blind on the field edge. I know that there's an individual that hunts the woods beyond where the deer were standing. It just wasn't worth the chance. Soon as we set up, I told my BIL that I was taking any shots that direction. We scanned the woods and didn't see any orange but, that doesn't always mean anything. All in all, great hunt and beautiful property. Grateful for the chance to go out there. Perhaps he'll invite me out for a muzzleloader hunt.

I ended up seeing a total of 22 deer. All does except 2 bucks. I could have attempted a head shot on a doe but, I passed. Her vitals were blocked by a fawns head. They were with 7 other does at the time but, those were the only two that came into my shooting lane.

Forget Torch Lake and stay in Traverse City instead. They have great places to eat and touring Mission point and Leelanau Peninsula are romantic places to see. I can give you a weeks worth of great places to see. The wife and I have spend every fall touring that area for the past 20 years or so. I really appreciate the suggestion here but, she had her heart set on Torch Lake the moment she seen the water. I did show her several other places, 2 or 3 in Traverse City, and she kept going right back to Torch Lake. She loves being on and in the water. Although with some of her medical issues, she does have her limitations. She does think Traverse City is nice and she does want to take a day to spend there.

I have some friends that hit torch lake every year closer to Father’s Day in June. They kill the smallmouth bass. They say that lake was crystal clear, and they are sight fishing to smallies on beds. So, take your boat! Good to know!

Daphne and I will be celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary on May 1st next year. I just booked us a vacation up at Torch Lake in Michigan. The address of the condo we're staying at shows Bellaire as the town we'll be near.
Torch Lake looks amazing! Bellaire seems like a cute little town too. We're both looking forward to the tripband trying some new foods and taking in the beautiful scenery!
Has anyone been up that way? Any food, shopping, etc.. suggestions?
Although our anniversary is May 1st, we're not going to Torch Lake until July 21st. We're hoping the water temps will be a little nicer then.
