I follow this thread pretty close, but I don't post much. In the 90's, I hunted turkeys with as much determination as I currently hunt deer. I pretty much became a weekend warrior,at best. I went out for the second time this year this morning. Rainy and nasty, but lots of gobbling! I heard 5-8 different birds on the roost in 3 directions. I set up at the edge of a small field surrounded by spoil banks. I had several responses to soft yelps and clucks. Around 7:45,it was a downpour. Decided to shut up and wait about 10 minutes later,2 twin gobblers came in gobbling and strutting at 25ish yards. BANG! Around 23 lbs. 9 inch beard,1 inch spurs! Good enough for me, good luck and keep posting. Congratulations!!!

If there's a way to screw up turkey hunting I find it. Never heard a gobble. Damn bird snuck in silent to my decoys and saw something fishy in the blind and got spooky. I hurried the shot and missed at not 20 yards. That hurts. Oh, that stinks! I hate when they slip in like that! Your set-up must have been good though.

I'm not feeling too confident but sitting in a blind overlooking a small clearing. Maybe one will work it's way over here in the rain. Good luck!

I have never turkey hunted but my son wants to give it a go. Got a blind, a couple decoys, and have had him pattern his gun. When you go out in the morning about how long before sunrise do you like to be set up? I like getting out there early enough to set up, relax and have a cup of coffee or two before the birds start gobbling. As for the rest of the day, they can be pretty much hunted all day. Mid day is good as well as late afternoon. Good luck and kudos to you for taking him out! Hunt safe and God bless!

Well once again the ole boy pitched down and crossed the road behind my house. Spent Monday and Tuesday trying to coax one into the field with no luck. Been a tough couple of weeks, lost my neighbor who sold me my ground and lost my other neighbor who I took hunting all the time last year. Had to get his replacement hip worked on Monday, talked to him Monday and Tuesday evening and was very upbeat then went into cardiac arrest at 2 this morning and never recovered. He always told me to keep at it and never give up cause things can change in seconds. Sure gonna miss my hunting buddy. I'll be chasing em again in the morning. I sure hate to hear this. I'm sure he appreciated the gift if time you had freely given him.

I see the THP crew found some quick success in Indiana! Good for them! They hit it hard and deserve what they harvest.
That being said, I kinda wish Indiana would give Hoosier hunters a solid week to hunt first before letting nonresidents hunt. I get it, big money draw but, just a thought I had. I hunt private ground far away from any public so, it really doesn't effect me any. And I get the fact that some people (actually two wood lots from me) lease ground that live out of State. Nonresidents but, leasing private ground so, I don't necessarily think they should have to wait. A lot of variables to consider I suppose. Idk, just something I think about when bouncing along on my lawn mower.
Just to be clear, I have no issues with non resident hunters or the THP crew. I've been watching them since their humble beginnings and appreciate the work and effort they put into hunting and producing the videos.

duff will you please take me fishing?! If you're that good at hunting turkeys, when you don't even like it, you have to be an absolute GOAT at crappie fishing! My freezer needs some filling!

Hunted Big Oaks today and found several Lone Star ticks crawling on our pant legs but all finally got wobbly and fell to the ground after being exposed to the Permethrin. It definitely works. Watching that sure makes you a believer and helps you feel more comfortable out there.

Just put an eye dropper in and shake it. If it turns the water white after shaken, it is enough. If you question it, put in another eye dropper. You aren't wearing these cloths while they are soaking wet are you? Letting it DRY first? So the water is literally GONE. If it is white when you spray it on, they there is protection where you spray it. Permethrin is BOTH an insecticide AND a repellant. Spray a spider and if he doesn't care, then you need more in what ever size water you are using. When you are happy, write it on the bottle. No math required. Beware that if your clothes get wet when wearing it may burn depending on the mix… I never apply it to my facemask or gloves. I don't want it getting in my eyes or mouth. Especially if I'm handling mouth calls or the facemask gets wet.
