Sometime in the spring I am going to get a rifle to use in Indiana. I don't reload so I will have to have some place to buy the ammo. I know there are a few places to get the Hoosier and WSSM ammo. My shots will be under 100 yards but I would like to have the ability to shoot up to 200-250 range. Recoil, ballistics, and accurancy are the most important. Here are my choices:
AR-15 in 450 Bushmaster, I like the idea of hunting with an AR rifle
Encore in 358 Hoosier
Encore in 358 wssm

I looked recently and Buds's had the 450 in stock for about $1200. I think that it was the 16" barrel, the 20" was not in stock.

My vote is the hoosier but if I could it would be a bolt gun. Is the 450 really a 250 yd round out of a AR type rifle? Just asking as I do not know for sure but was always under the impression that it is not.

The .358 WSSM because you can push it faster and 400 yards is very doable. h.h.

Since you want a 200+ yd gun going to have to go with one of the 358's.

The BM will handle 200 ok when zero'd at 150. But drops like a rock from there, being 2' low at 300. The other two will handle 300 as well as the BM will do at 200.

I'm not opposed to the 460 S&W either if it is a better option.

The 460 has better ballistics than does the BM, but 300 is along poke for it. So, do you have a Encore frame already

I have an encore already so I was just going to buy a barrell. I doubt I will ever shoot over 100 yards. I only hunt in the woods but there are times when I hunt the end of a ridge and can see a long way. 250 yards would be the max I would ever need.

Then you should consider the 460. Its pretty good out to your range. TC makes a fluted 20" barrel for it. Makes a nice addition to any collection.
