My thinking.. when I hunt the same stand more than once or twice per week my sightings go down.

Nice. I’ve had great luck with my cheap $7 Bresser from Walmart. I set it in a spot for a week, move it. It has a little display screen right on it. Takes plenty of photos. My stealth cam has been a let down this year. My promos Bullet cams also a let down. My wild game cloak 8 delivers like a champ. But I love that bresser. Simple and effective.

Topic of the year was rifle calibers. I was happy to see new calibers allowed, bummed to see them only on private, and upset when I learned there was a mistake made in the law that accidentally took away the use of commonly used calibers in years past. Second, I think wearing a safety harness in a tree stand should be optional, third I think baiting deer should be legal. Yes I think hunting is in decline but on public land where I hunt there are SO MANY other hunters we trip over each other. Deer numbers are REALLY low in northern Indiana. I favor a 1 buck 1 doe rule. If licenses were cheaper more would be attracted to the sport, maybe incentives for land owners to open their unused woods to hunting via tax cut incentives. Oh and pheasant season is an annoyance for me where I hunt public as they close my hunting area completely during the entire deer firearm season to shoot birds. ONLY IN INDIANA. So dumb.

I here to testify, I am officially a believer in deer movement based on lunar activity. I hunt a lot. To compensate for the amount of time I spend in the woods I hunt a lot of different stand locations so I don’t teach the deer where I am. It’s so hard staying away from your favorite stands for weeks at a time but I’ve seen many more deer this year with moving around. So I’ve been keeping track of when I see deer and when I have pics on trail cams, and I’ve become convinced that deer in my area are proving the deer movement calendar correct. Like I say I hunt a lot, and the days and times I see deer, I’ll see them come through and check my calendar later on and sure enough it’s becoming fairly consistent. And I hunt public land where you’d think all the deer should be nocturnal by now with all the human activity. I set up a trail cam near a newer stand u just hung 4 days ago because I suspected deer movement through that area, and had trail cam pics from 11:30am-12:30pm 2 days in a row, also had pics at 12:33am also lines up perfectly. And that’s just one example. The way I see it the deer haven’t been nocturnal the past 2 weeks in that “October lull” they’ve been moving instinctually and I think the moon had something to do with that! I mention public land too because they just behave a lot differently on public than on private. They’re a lot more elusive on public any little change to their environment and they spook.

Sounds like you left a lot of scent around your hunting area. Maybe. I only hunt a stand once every couple weeks. I had my knee-high rubber boots on scented away pretty good and it was raining pretty hard when I was out walking so fingers crossed I left little human impact there

I found one of my stands surrounded in close proximity by 13 fresh scrapes yesterday. Now I haven’t been to that stand in a couple weeks so it was exciting to see. I used some soft doe grunts at 8:22 am and a little fork tined buck and yearling doe came right under me at separate times both with their tails awkwardly in the air so I think somethings brewing. After my hunt I did a perimeter check for rubs and didn’t see any- surprising for the number of scrapes, right? I checked another stand location in the afternoon and found 2 small/medium rubs. It’s strange to find almost no rubs by any of my stands. So does this mean I don’t have any big bucks in the area? And what should I hunt the fresh scrapes or the rubs? My target is bucks.

How does a person know the best call to use? Experience? Preference? Price? I personally use the Primos Hardwoods Grunt for the good price and it’s easy to use. My experience has been fairly good, I lost the bottom half one time and one year a call froze in the cold on me, but otherwise I’m fairly pleased using these. I don’t call in many deer on public land because I typically remain silent. I’ve seen a lot of advertising for the extinguisher call, so I’m considering buying one. My impression is that the call with the most advertising becomes the most popular. So, the question is: what is the best deer call and why? Happy hunting!

Please put a 7 point buck down for team 5!!! Took the day off today to hunt, and lo an behold, this guy came within range of my Wicked Ridge Invader G3. This is my first harvest; I'm 32 and started hunting in 2014. My first shot was a little off, but sounded good. While I was waiting, 8 does came through the same area! Just when I was starting to get antsy about tracking him, he showed back up about 45 yards away obviously not doing too well. He bedded down and I was hoping he'd expire right there. As I was waiting (again) he got up and gave me another broadside shot. This time I made my mark and he dropped about 50 yards away, right on the edge of my property! He may not have the most impressive rack, but I'm happy to get one under my belt! Absolutely awesome! Way to go fellow north-east Indiana hunter! You find him on public or private?

On my property, once a deer detects activity I don’t see it again for 2-3 weeks

Thanks guys! It was a clean pass through. The arrow also passed through the opposing elbow bone! She did the traditional mule kick and I found her maybe 30yards away.

So..... anybody check Walmart to see if the CVA Wolf prices have gone up? :-) I love guns, but I love my bow more. Even in gun season I use my bow. I think muzzleloader will always be low cost. I saw a decent one used with scope this week for $75 and passed on it at a local gun shop.
