I got winded by a mature buck Thursday evening. He didn't spook bad. Just stopped, sniffed the air a little bit then turned and calmly walked away the way he came from. My question is, how should I wait to hunt that stand again. I am assuming he will be a little Leary of that area now.

Do you use any cover scent or scent killer sprays?

On my property, once a deer detects activity I don’t see it again for 2-3 weeks

It all depends. Usually wait at least a few days and make sure you have the right wind before going in again. He could have been back after dark and he may never come back that exact path. Crazy animals.

That's a tough question to answer. I've had deer bust me and I've not seen them again, and I've had deer that came back after a few days. In other words....who knows?
That's why I don't normally hunt this time of the year (unless there is a good cold front and the wind is absolutely right). My best odds of taking a mature buck are coming up and I don't want to take myself out of the game before it really gets started.

Do you use any cover scent or scent killer sprays? Yes I do. I use Atsko Zero scent killer. I sprayed down that afternoon but I did get a little warm on stand. Probably should of reapplied after a couple hours of sitting.

My wind was good that evening. Just 1-2 mph out of the south southeast hitting me in the face. My camera shows him moving north and south through the tall grass in front of my stand. He was there a lot last year but me and the neighbors were giving him a pass. After his movements last year and new pics this year I moved my stand for a better shot. This year he's using the same trail but, with less frequency. Perhaps he is actually moving behind my stand more often than I thought. Especially since the corn is still up. I'm definitely staying clear from there for a little while.

He may become nocturnal till the rut, when the rut hits all bets are off. He might show up there at 1pm.

You may be right! I hope that wasn't my one chance at him. He's a dandy. To me he is anyhow

1 to 2 mph winds is pretty much nothing and will shift and funnel around your stand more than any other day.
Those days I prefer to hunt higher stand options and if it is before third week of October I may not even hunt unless I know as close to 100% I can guarantee no busting will occur. I also take my activiated carbon dousing to a further degree as well.
Still a lot of time left in the season.

I've had them wind me and come back past within a hour. Others never seen again. Like woman, if you figure them out then let rest of us know.

Checked my cameras after this mornings hunt, he was walking by that stand at 3:08am the following morning. I trimmed two spots where he had stood not giving me a shot. Didn't trim much but, I gave myself 2 18" windows to shoot through next.

He looks at it pretty hard and it makes me wonder if seeing cameras is like a clue or hint to them that something is up. Got home and washed my clothes and have them drying out side now
