I found one of my stands surrounded in close proximity by 13 fresh scrapes yesterday. Now I haven’t been to that stand in a couple weeks so it was exciting to see. I used some soft doe grunts at 8:22 am and a little fork tined buck and yearling doe came right under me at separate times both with their tails awkwardly in the air so I think somethings brewing. After my hunt I did a perimeter check for rubs and didn’t see any- surprising for the number of scrapes, right? I checked another stand location in the afternoon and found 2 small/medium rubs. It’s strange to find almost no rubs by any of my stands. So does this mean I don’t have any big bucks in the area? And what should I hunt the fresh scrapes or the rubs? My target is bucks.

Have a camara on 3 scrapes. 12 different bucks are checking those scrapes.

Sounds like you left a lot of scent around your hunting area.

In the grand scheme of things, rubs can really mean a lot, or nothing at all.
I'd focus on the scrapes.

I'm probably the odd man out, but I don't hunt rubs or scrapes. I passed two new scrapes that were made overnight, and said to myself, "Oh, that's nice" as I continued walking on past. All I use them for is to tell me a buck (of whatever size) has been in the area. Anytime I've ever put a camera on a scrape, all activity was in the dark.

I get day time pictures of mature bucks at the big scrape in the edge of a field. That usually starts around Halloween each year.

If nothing else put a cam over one of the scrapes to see what is using it. I found 3 out behind my house on Monday and have had bucks using it almost every day including 2 shooters. The shooters have been at night still, did have a respectable 8 last evening in day light right behind a doe. There also 2 big rubs in the same area as the scrapes.

On my way out of the woods today I pee'd in a recently used new scrape and another scrape looked to have been freshly used. The one I pee'd in is 40 yds off the elevated shack the other is up towards the front of the property. All 3 bucks I saw today walked past the scrape without stopping to check or use it. 2 of the bucks, including the bigger buck, walked past it about 20-30 yds away. The little guy darn near walked right over it without stopping.

Sounds like you left a lot of scent around your hunting area. Maybe. I only hunt a stand once every couple weeks. I had my knee-high rubber boots on scented away pretty good and it was raining pretty hard when I was out walking so fingers crossed I left little human impact there

The little guy darn near walked right over it without stopping. On my property it has been the opposite. Bucks and does both are coming to the scrape and standing at it. The Bucks will walk to it, stand at it, then start rubbing his antlers in the branches above it. This has occurred every single day since i put the cam up on Monday. They then walk on the other side of the tree where this is another smaller scrape and check it out, then they leave the same direction they came in because they if had continued on there original path they would basically be on my back deck lol. The scrapes are only 40 yards or so from the back deck. I had similar experiences last fall on another smaller property i hunt. The last few days of October and first week of November bucks were coming out of neighboring properties and running over to the 4 acre patch i was hunting to check a mock scrape i had made. Several were in daylight and i had shot opportunities at a couple. One i passed up that i now regret. After he walked in front of my camera i realized i messed up and he was bigger then i thought. Personally i like hunting near scrapes.

Yesterday when I left the woods I pee'd in the scrape closest to my first spot. When I left the woods today it had fresh deer tracks / scraping in it so I pee'd in another and dumped some buck and doe urine in a few others. I wanna get those boy's worked up so hopefully I can get a nice one to come looking while I'm there.
