I always wear a harness. I'm wearing one now as I type this in a ladder stand. Owe it to wife and kids to get home safely. I've been guilty of napping in stand and don't want to fall out. I slipped a foot or so in my climber a few years ago about 20 feet up and was so thankful I had my harness on.

Live from my kid's swim meet for me. Off tomorrow and wind is forecast perfect for one of my stands.

What a beast of a whitetail. Congratulations to the hunter.

Hung a double ladder stand a few weeks ago. Taking my oldest out youth season. Hoping this will be the year for her first after a few close calls last season.

I didn't start hunting until job relocation to Arkansas in fall of 2004. Nearly all my coworkers hunted, and had been since childhood. I spent about a year tring to learn all I could from them before trying myself. I can still close my eyes and remember that 1st buck in the scope of the borrowed 7mm, and me shaking like a leaf before I shot. Been hooked every since.

Thanks guys. A little over 20 pounds, 1 1/4" spurs, and 10 3/4" beard. I haven't tagged many, pretty happy. Took the legs too. Gotta be a good way to cook them, I just haven't had luck with a recipe yet. Woooooooohoooooo! Congratulations! I was thinking that this morning would have been good, but I just couldn't get out. Looks like rain later, and I'm a fair weather ...everything. Hey, have you ever tried cooking the turkey breast on a smoker with some rub on it? That sounds tasty, but I don't have a smoker. My wife wants a smoker though, maybe this will get us to buy one. I like to grill turkey breast kabobs threaded with bacon. The legs are a cooking challenge to me to be edible.

Bird down. Sitting in a blind overlooking small field. Finally got one to answer my calls about 715. He snuck in silent through the woods from opposite way he gobbled. Almost like a buck circling downwind. Would have never gotten him without the blind as he was 20 yards when I saw him. Bang, flop, flop, flop. Nice long beard and sharp spurs.

Made a huge loop through HNF today. Never heard a gobble.

Didn't hear a gobble this morning before thunderstorm set in. Now sitting in my truck watching a small field waiting on the rain to hopefully move out. Heard at least 3 birds from this spot Saturday. Not sure if stormy weather last night altered their pattern.

My work gives us an allowance to have our clothes treated by a company called insectshield. Supposed to be good for 70 washes. Cost about $8.00 per item in bulk. Returned to me within 2 weeks. Worked great for me last year. They use permethrin as well. www.insectshield.com

I don't know if it's the best public land for turkeys, but the Hoosier National Forest is big, over 200,000 acres. I have had hunted some crowded areas the first few days, but later in season been mostly to myself. Especially during the work week.

Made a big loop still hunting a new area for me on HNF. Watched 2 young bucks, an 8 point and a 6 or 7 point, feeding in a field for awhile around 1030. Heard another deer blow, and shortly afterward another hunter walked right through the field. I don't think he ever saw the bucks as it is an irregularly shaped field. Unfortunately saw no does, but may have found a good morel picking spot in another area.

Got a doe still hunting HNF this morning. Spotted 2 does about 200 yards away across a large pond and up the hill crosswind from me. I advanced west as they did, intending to slip around the western edge of the pond. Well they decided to bed before I could slip around the pond. Had to watch them for around 45 minutes because I wasn't sure the west wind would swirl my scent to them. Eventually they rose, so I started my stalk. Which didn't go far because I ran into a bunch of hens at 20 yards. Don't know why they didn't spook, but I slipped between the pond and a steep hill. Reacquired the does since I had lost sight of them and dropped one at 50 yards. Fun morning, but had an uphill drag of ~ 1/2 mile to the truck.

Well, not looking good. I waited about an hour to check shot site. Shards of bone and bits of flesh right at the shot, but I can't find a blood trail. He went over a ridge at the shot. Gridding the hillside looking for any sign. To me it appears just a brisket shot, but still have a lot of checking to do. Hope you find him. Where is the brisket? I think I ate some once, but not sure where it came from. The front, outside of his chest. I looked over entire hillside to property line and saw nothing. Went back to shot site on hands and knees. No good blood, just the shards of bone and I think bits of skin and fat. I think bullet glanced of his chest. I use Shockwave sabots, never had a problem before. I went home and shot at target. Was dead on. I think I just made poor shot. Still sick about it, but hopefully the buck lives.
