Best thing to do is scout after season is over and early/mid spring. The sign will be easily visible. This will tell you where the deer where during hunting season. Then come late summer go out and glass if you can and don't be afraid to venture into suspected bedding the deer will come back. Look for single beds in thick or remote areas with hair in the beds. Look for worn down to dirt beds. Typically buck beds will have a rub tree in their bed or really close proximity. Doe tend to bed in groups so if you find an area with multiple beds its usually does, but mark that spot because come rut it will draw bucks. Follow rub lines to thick cover. The best thing you can do is put boots on the ground. If you don't already know, the hunting beast forum has sooo much information pertaining to bedding/ mature buck bedding. If interested go check out the site its free to join. There is alot of info to dig through and it can seem daunting, but its so informational!

Since your going in so early and with the full moon you should be able to navigate with no flashlight. But I've had deer bust me over 200 yrs away on full moon mornings walking in. I've also had bucks come running up to me within 20 yrds in low light. As previously stated dont overthink it. This time of year bucks act different. Go out and enjoy the fact you get to hunt. My thinking has always been the deer are in the fields and not in the woods so I go in through the woods most times.

Depends on type your wanting to get. I use z-traps because of the push/pull trigger system but most commercial traps are good quality. Some you have to have a special setter to set and that's just one more step you have to do with cold hands.

Oil cooler will result in milky oil. Remove fill cap and check for grayish sledge.

According to these two books the top buck was: 197 1/8 killed by William W. Cripe in Clinton County in 1974 Strange , eh? Cripes buck was disqualified---I personally saw that buck at Bruce Shoups(taxidermist since deceased)shop and he was partially broken off on one side so Bruce assumed what that side would look like and reproduced it on the mount. This was known and accepted for the record book at the time but later recinded. Steve You from around clinton county Bowman?

What are some good sock liners? I've been putting the wool directly on my feet. It keeps the pain away, but not toasty warm. I use dress type socks. The real thin man made material type

[ [/p] Current Issue
A few days after we got it back from the dealer, it started making some grinding noises under hard acceleration. This time I took it to a local mechanic I trust, who called me while ago and said that the transfer case has been drained. He said that you could tell the drain plug had been removed before, but the fill plug has never been out of the case. He says there are no leaks, it had to have been intentionally drained. The transfer case is destroyed.
From the picture you posted, why wasent the fill plug clean? If he did his job correctly the fill plug would be clean because he would of checked the fluid level at the fill plug??

So what happened with this one. Tracked him about 250 yards, he laid down but got back up. Lung shot for sure, blood everywhere. We'll get him in the morning, we ran out of where our property extends to. Are you guys giving the deer enough time to expire? Next time force yourself to wait an hour before getting out of the stand. How was the deer acting when you shot it? Was it calm, nervous?? This can all make a difference in recovery.
