A few are probably already aware, but I wanted to bring it up as some have started asking me about the organization. Let me preface this entire thing with, NO this group is not related to or associated with any other group out there either new or old. The name of the group says a lot of it and yes I'm involved (not a leader though) of this group. There will be a lot more news coming in the near future once the non-profit is properly formed and all our ducks get in a row. The group is extremely organized and going about everything in the proper way. Overall just some bullet points of goals: - Become the largest organized voice for all deer hunters spread throughout the state to both legislators & the DNR. - We desire to have a STRONG working relationship with the DNR (especially Joe Caudell - biologist) - Stress involvement and participation in any and all DNR surveys, data collection and discussions - Same as above but in any and all IDHCA surveys or data collection requests - Educate/Stress hunter safety - Educate/Stress a conservation mindset when hitting the woods - Educate/Stress hunter recruitment through mindset & organized events - Educate/Stress habitat improvements/discussions for hunters to consider Mission Statement overall is: “To provide an alliance and unified voice of ethical deer hunters from all walks of life and interests to aid in the continued tradition and conservation of Indiana’s free range whitetail deer herd . To offer advice and direction to Hunters and state governing bodies when solicited” Stay tuned and I'll be sure to keep everyone updated. I personally got involved because of the group's desire to include habitat as part of their overall mission of education and stress...but I believe every hunter will or can find aspects of the group which speaks to them personally and will want to be part of it!

How about you post up the names of the leadership of the group..... that should tell the underlying story of what to expect going forward! Names and past history tells many tales good and bad.

Main positions are:
Dan Carr - President Ryan Kats - President Elect Sean Riley - Vice President Kristal Kellogg - Secretary/Treasurer
There are others working on the board/chairs like me as well but those are the main positions. Some of those positions are things like Membership Chairs, Social Media/Program Coordinating, PR and such...
Organizing appropriately is of the utmost importance for the group which is awesome!

I am actually the one building the website. Once it is up will share for all. I just wanted to breach the news as some have discovered their FB page and saw I am involved I have gotten some messages about it. Makes it easier to point responses just to this thread.

What I have seen so far I like. They are very open minded to all opinions and are not a "one trick pony" organization that sees one thing as a cure all for the Indiana deer herd. This group will be multifaceted..
Of course no group can speak for all deer hunters in Indiana but they will be seeking as much input as possible to their's and the DNR's surveys..
Stay tuned....

Exactly...talk of even having youth hunt opportunities...hunter/archery workshops for kids...and similar things have even been discussed. Truly a conservation group desiring to educate and be an overall voice and source for hunters and DNR alike.

How many members are there at the current time? Members not FB "LIKE's" is the question? Well, seeing as how the non-profit is not quite official, no actual memberships will be processed or available till then as it should be. So really 0. Even the president and board members are not a formal member. As soon as the website is up and running their will be an actual membership request page and that all will be tracked and such to ensure proper tracking and reporting will occur. This group understands strongly the difference between "likes" and actual members cannot be used interchangeable even in the slightest.

How many members are there at the current time? Members not FB "LIKE's" is the question? Members approved 12,600. A few have been removed. Pretty good group and seems to be gaining traction and acceptance in the hunting community. As Ty Miller already said the group is in early stages but is moving forward pretty quickly with recently elected officer's and district heads. Also in process of filing non profit paperwork and building a webpage. Plan is to continue the groups Facebook page and have a "Members Only" website. I personally like what the group stands for and how it is run.

I think it's a good way to not only show transparency, but bring in new members based on what they are seeing and reading.

We have nothing to hide so why go the secret route? I don't think I've ever joined a forum that was closed to reading by non-members. I want to know what I'm getting into before I join.. The way I understood the IDHCA statements was that there would be a formal membership in the future and not just "likes" and "followers" on FB.

It will be interesting to see if this group thinks that DNR is going to let the deer herd grow back to the level it was before the reduction plan started.
Pretty sure we will be in maintain mode for years to come.

I have been informed and need to clarify an earlier statement.
Dan, the president, I was informed does hold a seat on the FWCC. That seat was one he was approach to sit in by IWDHM due to his ability to listen, respectfully deliver thoughts and had mutual respect with others there...basically was a much better representation for them when their management changed extensively.
He does not plan on staying in that seat once IDHCA earn a seat as he is 100% committed to everything IDHCA is committed to and that is incredibly different than some groups which have come before.
Apologies as I personally was unaware of that previously and just learned today. Hopefully this illustrates the level of utmost transparency the group is committed to.
Also should anyone know my personal history with IWDHM should know if I am not worried than many shouldn't be as well. (Private message me if desired, I do not air dirty laundry publically)
As for membership and website woody nailed it for sure. Their will not be any secret pages or sites for members only. The website will be main way to become formalized member and no the current group page on FB would not constitute actual membership count as it is incredibly informal.

Pretty sure we will be in maintain mode for years to come. This group already has discussed and understand Joe also cannot make any changes unless actual measurable data exists.... The group's also dedicated in discussing habitat and it's affect on all our localized wild deer herd...and anything else which will benefit deer and deer hunters no matter what quotas or deer numbers are.

What makes him think he will get a seat at FWCC ? And him staying in the IWDHM position while being president of this NEW group sound interesting at best. Looks like FWCC is slowly becoming a Deer meeting only .... that was not the intent when it was formed years ago BTW.... I heard talk few months ago of a new group forming and we would be headed back to where proposal 1 had us .... guess time will tell if that is true and if were headed down that rabbit hole again!
