The only way to really reduce the coyote population is the bring back Grey Wolves. But that won't happen. Meanwhile the Coyotes will keep the Red Fox Population low or cause them to go extinct.

Last grey I caught was in 98’ or 99’. Haven’t seen one since then.

I don’t agree. In a small area they can be trapped hard and if kept after year after year you can control the coyote population. But guys that trap them hard can only cover so much ground. Plus when the coyote market is down, guys aren’t gonna go after them hard. What I mean is that if you deplete the number of coyotes in one area they will increase their number of pups and replace those that are lost adn also other coyotes from other areas will move into the empty area. And after a while the coyotes get smarter. If trapping could wipe out the coyoter population (Entire USA not just a small tract of land) they would be no coyotes left just as therea are no wild wolves left in states like IN. Trappers and hunters wiped out the wolves but they failed to wipe out the coyotes. Instead the coyotes population blossomed. So I'm talking about the big picures for coyotes in the entire USA. I base this on articles that i've read about this coyote situation. Remember most coyotes were located west of the Mississippi River. Now we have coyotes roaming around New York City and many of the Eastern States. |

I think the last years my dad and I trapped we just started to get into trapping yotes but it wasn't easy and at the time red and grey fox were pretty abundant. Think that was around 1986 when we really didn't do much trapping. So in about 30 years the yotes have taken over what the fox had. |

Thats good that your catching some reds.
My dad has snared 2 more yotes at his place and I shot one more while out deer hunting.
