Well I am pretty much done for the year! I took a nice doe in Oct and have hunted hard the past two weeks. You could definitely tell that the rut had picked up the last two days in Ripley County. Night before last I saw 3 bucks two of which were trailing a doe but all were young deer. Honey-do's kept me out of the stand until 2 pm yesterday and right at 5 I saw a fork horn walking down a fence row 100 yards in front of me like he was on a mission! He jumped the fence and tore up a tree and made a fresh scrape 50 yards in front of me, then started easing his way toward me. Then literally from out of nowhere a nice 8 point freshened up the scrape and starts heading straight at me! From the time I saw him until the time I released an arrow was under a minute! I drew when he was already under 20 yards, he hesitated for just a second, and I let the arrow fly! I actually watched the shaft hit right where I had aimed! He recoiled after just having a Spitfire tipped carbon arrow bury in to his chest, ran past me at a full run, and crashed in to a tree behind me less than 50 yards! There is something absolutely beautiful about making a good shot and watching the deer go down within sight of your stand! I climbed down, walked straight to him, said my blessings, and couldn't believe how fast it all happened! He's a 130 class main frame 8 point and dressed out at 175 pounds. Now is the magic time to be in the woods my friend, so if you can, hunt and hunt hard! Good luck to all, I'm off to the butcher shop!
