Steve's thread in the Firearms section brought this thought to mind: If IN opened up the rifles allowed for deer hunting which one sitting in your safe would or on a dealer's shelf would you put in to action? For me it would be my Model 7 in 260. Handy, plenty of performance - I don't need the range advantages of the 270wsm anywhere I huntin IN.

For starters I could quit trimming my 35 Rem brass! Tuff question to answer, I think ultimately I would have to rotate them all in and out of service. The .243 would be fun too.

I plan on having a Remington Mountain SS made into a 358 Hoosier .... instead of having the chamber changed I would just buy the gun in 308 and use it.
On my farm pinpoint precision is much more important than range capabilities ... a 150 yard shot would be a long ways where I hunt.

All I know is a bunch of us would be buying rifles!! Not a lot of my friends have centerfire rifles for deer size (or larger) game.
But they would!
I'd have to kick in some income creating afterburners too. lol
God Bless

I'd probably go back and forth between my .30/06 and my Winchester 1894 .30-30.
I'm sure I'd still get my current Indiana-legal shotguns and rifles out every now and then too, for old times' sake.

I'd trade out between the S&W Mod. 1500 bolt action in .270, Winchester 70 bolt in 30-06, or Browning BLR in .308 that are in the safe. I've used the S&W (bought new in 1982 with "made in Japan to S&W specifications" on the barrel a lot. Nail driver. The Winchester I used once in Bayfield Co. Wisconsin maybe 18 years ago and brought home two does. The BLR I used once maybe 15 years ago down in Georgia and brought home two bucks. All have Leupold scopes. I am partial to the S&W.....the other two are too pretty to use. LOL

I'd put the Marlin 30/30 in the girl child's hands and I'd take the .243 Handi Rifle. The 30/30 has high mounts so she could choose to use glass or not and provides plenty of range to cover all of her confident shooting situations. The .243 is the last big game gun in my cabinet to not take a whitetail and the range it provides would just be fun for me to test my abilities with.

308....... I love big BOOOOOOMS !!!!!!! .308's are little booms. That's a .308 on he right, my 7mm on the left. There's only one place here in Indiana that I could possibly use it tho. I'd probably still take the .45 cal Savage Muzzleloader most of the time. Only if I had to walk a long ways would I grab the Browning A-Bolt Mountain Ti in .243. and NO, I don't want to sell it!

I'd have to bring out the Marlin 1895 in 45/70. Long time since I took a deer with it.

OMG what is that MAGnificent 7? It is awesome!!! I need one of those in a handgun! I have had a passion in the high powered caliber handguns since they became legal. Been through a lot of calibers from 30-06, 308, 7-08, 270, 257 Roberts, 243, and 260 Rem. The 260 now is my favorite so I may try one in a rifle one of these days. Flat shooting, low recoil, tremendous accuracy and knockdown power from such a little round is fun to work with. Lately I have been enjoying the 45 cal PacNor on my Rem700 smokeless mz as my long range field gun, and the 50 cal Savage as my woods gun. So lots of choices and favorites! Hard to choose. Jay

With out some range time my first choice would be rem 243 bolt or rem semiauto 30-06 after that 6 mm 270, 7mm 300 weatherby 7x57 35 rem I just do not know. Still have the savage ml that is good to 300 yds.
