I've seen upland guns with 22" barrel. Is this what one wants for upland hunting? I've got a 18 1/2" "cut barrel" for my 870 that is open bore for home defense. If I used that for birds I'd probably kill the whole flock with one shot.. LOL, So you're thinking 26"?

That is what my deer barrel is. I couldn't find my barrel stretcher to stretch the 18 1/2" barrel to 26" so I'm getting the 28" cut off ...

I find that accuracy often decrease with the thinner barrells you get when you use the barrel stretcher anyway so you probably did the right thing

I'd like a mix since I've never done it before; however, the slowest flying bird would probably be best for me. I'd just like to hunt with you and your sister, since we didn't make it out last year.

You can have whatever birds you want. When we did it, we had 2 pheasants, 8 chukar and maybe 12 quail in our field. You pay for each bird.

Just got word back from Michael Orlen that the barrel I sent him the ID is too great and he can't do the Screw in choke threading....
Guess ill hunt birds with the modified choke .....or the 18 1/2" open bore...
I told him to put a Bradley bead in it and send it back..,

I think I'm going to take my shotguns to my hunting ground and pattern them. I know that you're kidding about the 181/2", but I do want to see what it does. I don't have many shotguns anymore, but have never patterned the ones that I now have. When I was 18, I had more guns than I do now. I think my brother has most of them, but he's too crazy for me to ask. The more I think about it, living at home were the good ol' days. LOL

UPDATE on Royal Flush. For now, the October 10th date will have to be tentative. The date still works fine. However, it is way too early to tell what the weather and conditions will be. Here is the major issue as this pic shows: I was by Royal Flush today and you can't even get down the road to the lodge as shown. Fields are flooded everywhere. I'm sure that come October things will be fine. The big question is whether there will be much cover. It could be a good month before cover can be planted. We will have other options so don't dismay. I just felt I should keep everyone updated.

Thank you for the update , maybe we should have a back up date just in case the 10th is not suitable for the hunt .

Jon , I believe the 10 gauge was mainly used for high flying geese . But the 12 gauge now has the 3 and 3.5 inch shells for those same birds .
