Royal Flush works with approximately 1000+ acres. Generally, the hunts will encompass various 10-40 acre fields of varying cover depending on the year.

I was wondering what type and gauge shotgun was everyone going to be using ?
I'm using my Winchester 1200 pump 16 gauge

The 16ga will probably be great. I may take a 20ga just for the light weight, but normally, I seem to want more gun than the situation requires. Did you ever see a photo of that guy who shot trap with the 410? Woody has posted his photo. I bet 410 would be fine for him. SO, we're out there to have fun and you shoot whatever makes you happy. I wish I felt comfortable with a single shot, but truth be told, if I miss on the first one, the second will miss too. I'm just not very good at this.

I've takin 1 Pheasant my 410 , I do 1 hunt with the gun in MEMORY OF MY FATHER (<- high lighted not yelling ) I just want 1 shot at the bird hit or miss it won't matter ,
The story behind the 410 gauge
My father couldn't shoot a shotgun any more because of a triple by-pass , he needed 6 I believe but his body and heart wouldn't handle it , so when I started hunting I wanted a person who wouldn't do me wrong , but I needed to find a gun that wouldn't kill my father with a recoil , and I found out that he wanted a 410 shotgun and I bought him a single shot . We did 2 hunts that year , each hunt lasted maybe 15 min. tops but the memories have still lasted the following Aug 18 -1990 my Father passed away just an hour before a pass maker could be put in . So now I dedicate 1 hunt a year in his Memory by using the 410 shotgun that I bought him .

In 1990, I probably would have died. Amazing what they can do now without cutting the chest open. I do know one guy recently who had a triple, but had no heart damage. He came back to work after 3 months. I have very few memories of my dad, and the only thing that he gave me besides donating some DNA was a 20ga single barrel. I hunt squirrel with it, but it has nothing to do with memories of him. I probably wouldn't enjoy squirrel hunting if this were the case. The only time that I couldn't shoot was after they put in the defibrillator/pacemaker. That hurt for a while. I couldn't raise my arm for 6 weeks, but this was just so the leads wouldn't come out of my heart.

Only thing is...we might have to change yer name to ithica410...instead of mossberg500! Seriously though, many years ago I guided a hunt with a grandpa, son and grandson. The grandpa wanted the 13 year old grandson to carry and shoot at least 1 bird with his old Ithica model 66 super single .410. This was sort of a right of passage and grandpa ended up giving the grandson the gun at the end of the hunt. The boy was so good with the gun that he carried it the whole hunt and knocked down the majority of the birds! Let me tell you...a prouder grandpa couldn't have been found on that day!

All I have are 6 shot other than practice rounds and I don't like to shoot squirrel with them. I like plenty of powder behind those projectiles. I may pick up some 1oz shot.

So do we have some kind of head count for this hunt ? I bet we end up with a dozen. My ice fishing buddy says he'll come, but I'm not holding my breath. He gets busy.

I think it would be fine to bring your brother to video. He'll be behind us and we won't turn that far to shoot. I've been educated now; I know the 45 degree rule. If he's more than 10yds out I wouldn't hit him anyway. LOL

Is the property at Royal Flush still under water and has it rained any more ? It's been a little dry. It's amazing how quickly it can dry up... wind and sun. I think we'll be just fine. I'm excited. You are too, ?
