At the deer and turkey expo last weekend I believe IDNR was passing out fliers with this bill to have people contact their district to allow IDNR to handle this issue. I think it was the IDNR. Whoever was in charge of all the Indiana Mounts handed them out.

It has now been taken out of the hands of the Insurance Commitee and forwarded to the Natural Resource Committee,
Also thankful that TENPOINT Crossbows have retracted their backin of this bill.

Gotta remain vigilant on this until its dead. I'd say there is no doubt with Jack's involvement and all of us making calls, sending emails voicing our concerns that we're making a difference on how this bill is now being heard.

I am really concerned that the bill is even being heard. We need to keep up the pressure until it is dead dead dead.

Jack Jack, I waited until it was assigned to committee to send out a mass emailing from here. That way it is easier to stop with people sending emails, calls and letters to the 11 or so that is on the Committee of Natural Resources and the "sponsors" of the bill. Sort of honing in our shots where it will do the most good. I don't think it will make it out of committee, but one never knows. Here is a letter sent by Rep. Friend to a poster on bowsite. www.kconline.com/potawatomi/otherimages/friend.tifSee if you can figure out what he is talking about by "working closely with the IDNR" and referencing the OBR..

Thanks Woody for the email! I sent all listed my thoughts on this poorly constructed bill.

Pretty much what he said at the House committee hearing except he never mentioned the OBR. I have no idea what he's talking about most of the time. I do know he met with IDNR and then went off and used none of thier suggestions to amend the bill. Not what I call "working closely" but that's just me. Jack

Personally - My biggest problem with this is it is coming from the legislature. The increasing bag limits, allowing crossbows in the firearm season (big deal there, ?) and allowing the 55 and up to use crossbows should be decided by the IDNR, not the legislature. I don't think any one of those will amount to a hill of beans. - People will only kill as many deer as they can eat, no matter what the limit is. - Very few hunters will use a crossbow in the firearms season, just like very few use a regular bow. - Not as many 55 and ups out there hunting anyway. Maybe we should cut them some slack? But, let's get it out of the hands of the legislature. Send your emails. Exactly right! The problem is not that the deer herd is going to somehow be irrevocably damaged the problem is the meddling by the legislature and the can of worms that can potentially open.

Seems like things are slowing down. Hope it falls off the radar. I had sent out a slew of emails ( thanks to Woody's mass mailing ) that included Mitch, sponsors, the DNR and senators. I never got one reply from any. Anytime before when I emailed Mitch or any other state Rep I at least got a reply from someone. Is everyone in the state house overwhelmed on this bill?

Most of those emails are screened by staffers and the legislators never see them.

When Congress is in session is probably not the best time to get your Reps. attention.

Take a step back boys. I for one hate deer. To me they are giant rats that endanger my family, and eat my crops. And I'm not alone, many many property owners and farmers see them the same way. As do most folks who have hit one with their vehicals. If this bill won't work what are YOUR ideas? There won't be a jump in hunters as not everyone wants to perch in a tree like a vulture and freeze their butt waiting for a deer to wander by. So what would you do to reduce the herd and take the pressure off? I already know land owners who do the 3 S method, and many who just won't comment. Step up boys. Stop complaining and offer a solution.
