Haven't gotten to bow hunt this year so there is much anticipation for the gun opener Sat. Gun is sighted in and the knife is sharp. Isn't it time to go yet?

Well boys I have been a science teacher for 39 years and can't wait to see how the kids did. We compare stories and enjoy it all. Now that being said it wouldn't bother me a bit if any student took some time off to go hunting. Also I believe I am the only staff member that hunts in my school. Some of the ladies have husbands who hunt but that is about it. There are several that fish but no hunters. I get flack from some of my students because I am a hunter but I simply try to be patient and explain the why of it. We have students who take off a week at a time for family vacations etc. so a hunting trip is not any different. I will be taking a few days off this year to hunt myself so what's good for the gander is good for the geese.

I voted maybe, I have a number of guns to deer hunt with and was bitten by the muzzleloader bug 40 plus years ago.

Old Ironsights, Flinters were mentioned in camp this year and there may well be some there next year. The focus of next year's camp is to get those youngsters a shot at a deer. That Garrett kid never took his orange off and carried his new birthday muzzleloader with him everywhere even to the bathroom. My first trip to Patoka was in 94 and the group keeps getting larger. I have been there every year since then. The Potaka Lake stories are a true heritage that is being passed on to the third generation.

Been chasing these dang deer for 41 years and have lost count of how many I've killed. I will keep at it until I can't physically do it any more.

I have about 50. The oldest one is a buck folding hunter I bought when I was 16. I'll be 60 on my next birthday.

Nearly ran over a large doe and 2 fawns on way to the farm today. She ran out of a standing corn field and stopped in the middle of the road and looked back. I was on the brakes instantly and she turned and ran on across, the two fawns followed into another corn field. They looked healthy. The food plot looks good. Not much deer sign yet. 9-16

Talked to my brother in law today{9-8) and he told me he had seen the big one on the property this week. We did not see him last season and thought some one had killed him as there was a report of a bowhunter who had stuck and lost a "Booner" on an adjoining property last year. My two oldest sons had a chance two seasons ago and both missed. He is rumored to be a 14 pt. typical and high and wide. I sure would like to get him in my sights. The stuff dreams are made of.

I was 30 something and shot my first one running at 24 steps. Broke its neck with a .54 maxiball out of a TC Renegade. Had to switch over to the left shoulder and shoot lefthanded as the deer approached from my right rear.

For Wisconsin hunting I use a Remington 740 that is about 50 years old. It still shoots Remington factory 165 grain loads into an inch at 100 yards when I do my part. My go to rifle in Indiana is a Savage muzzleloader shooting smokeless powder and Hornady 250 grain XTP. It will also shoot into an inch at 100 yards. I have a Nikon Monarch Gold 1.5X6 with the German #4 reticle on it. It has been third pillared and bedded and a Sims pad added. Oh yes stainless and black synthetic.

If I wouldn't turn him down on the last day of the season then I wouldn't turn him down on the first day.

Did a little research on the net and found that people had success using an air conditioner if it was modified by hooking up a thermostat in combination with a light bulb to "fool" the air conditioner so it would continue to cool. Claimed temperatures in the high 40s.
