12 of us camped this weekend at Patoka Reservoir for muzzle loader season. The weather was frigid but didnt dampen the spirits of the hunters. We had some new hunters in camp including 3 youth hunters and we were missing a couple of veterans too. There were lots of stories told around the campfire Saturday night and I think some got stretched a little. LOL We killed 6 deer in all and one of the youth hunters whos name i wont mention got a little buck fever on Saturday. He shot and reloaded and shot at a buck twice at 50 -70 yards. We all had a good time and im sure most will be back next year. h.h. The Group Bottom Row L- R, Trent, James, Garret, Travis. How come nobody has a properly sooty face? We were burning EPA approved clean wood. The guy who was keeping the fire going is a little bit of a firebug. At one time I told him he had enough wood on there to signal barge's on the Ohio River. lol h.h.

Old Ironsights, Flinters were mentioned in camp this year and there may well be some there next year. The focus of next year's camp is to get those youngsters a shot at a deer. That Garrett kid never took his orange off and carried his new birthday muzzleloader with him everywhere even to the bathroom. My first trip to Patoka was in 94 and the group keeps getting larger. I have been there every year since then. The Potaka Lake stories are a true heritage that is being passed on to the third generation.

That is exactly what it takes to keep this sport alive and well.. .
