After finishing the trailer load of wood yesterday I took the body bag from my Monroe hunt down to the creek to feed the mink. Once back at the cabin I realized I rode the length of the flats and didn't avoid the cottonwood tree that had fallen across the creek. Right before I left I went back down to see what had happened to it. I was standing on the 4 wheeler about 10 feet from the creek when 13 big, fat, gorgeous wood ducks landed beside me. 😳
Loved the show, but hunting next to a running motor is going to take some getting used to.

If only the state of Indiana took trespassing seriously... They don't seem to take trespassing issues very seriously, but they sure do get curious when it comes to missing person reports.

The boy child and I were at Monroe yesterday for the first time. Ended up choosing blind 7 in the dead middle of the marsh. Love the location, but that blind needs an enormous amount of work.
I realize we had to be seeing the same birds more than once, but saw over 1000 birds. Had well over 100 coming down in the air multiple times. Found out we can't shoot worth a crap. Discovered the guys in the blind behind us didn't want us to kill any geese because they took 100+ yard shots at birds almost 200 feet in the air. Found out that I can still run a goose call. 10 blinds full of guys and everyone at the check station on the way out said we were the only blind to get the geese to turn and come down, they seemed quite upset we were robbed by the barrel stretchers. All in all it was a good day. I shot my first ever ring neck and got a pair of gadwalls.

PLEASE BEWARE OF HOLIDAY SCAMS ON THE INTERNET. I ORDERED MY WIFE SOME EXPENSIVE JEWELRY FOR CHRISTMAS, AND INSTEAD, THE SENT ME A NEW RIFLE AND 2 BOXES OF AMMO. Since the order was for your wife, I believe you meant to say they sent HER a new rifle and 2 boxes of ammo. :-)

Got to get one more dump trailer load of wood split before knee surgery Jan 4. Going Saturday in the balmy weather and taking the 308. Hopefully the deer are just a curious and I actually pay enough attention this time.

Going in the bank to hang over my new quad payment just in case something happens with my job. I have 4 different bank accounts that all my bills are set up with direct deposit and auto pay and have finally managed to be about 8 months ahead of all of them. I don't want to be unemployed, but I'm prepared just in case.

Hopefully rhe Prosecutor has the stones to charge them, or at least the actual shooter, with attempted murder.

I was using antenna towers and loc-on stands, and would have a few ladder stands up for others to use. Since my hip replacement last year I have switched to strictly ladder stands with a loc-on next to it. The ladder stands are much easier on my body to climb. This has turned every stand location into a double set, so it's great for taking kids or switching sides of the tree. My only dislike is I'm no longer as high up as I prefer to be.
That reminds me, is anybody interested in a few antenna towers? :-)

You need to use that thing for hay rides or in parades. It looks amazing.

Around here our officers have been too busy going to domestic violence and overdose calls. It seems like the only time they run traffic is when they are on the Federal overtime money doing operation pull over. For that money they have to average a certain number of vehicles per hour, but I don't believe there is a citation requirement.

Just a quick glance at the calendar made me panic...I work Wednesday and Thursday 6am-6pm, then Friday 6am-noon, then muzzlelaoder season ends 30 minutes after sunset on Sunday. I`m usually so tired and sleepy after getting off at noon on these Friday`s I have to nap after I get home to even be functional, but if my buddy will take me hunting, I`d better find a way to stay awake so I can hunt Friday and Saturday afternoons, then maybe find a way to get a Sunday morning hunt in too. My dilemma after Sunday will be, do I go out with a firearm for the special, bonus antlerless season December 26th to January 3, or do I go out with the crossbow in hopes of a buck coming through in range? Take both since both are in season and legal.

I just spoke with the landowner. They have no idea on their end when leases expire or renew, so no way for me to get advance notice of the property I "might" be interested in being available. To me, that itself makes me think the leasing company is crooked.

So about an hour into the wood splitting my brother showed up. As he crested the hill and started around my truck he saw a deer standing just inside the point of the woods watching me toss chunks into the dump trailer. He said when he stepped out from behind my truck the deer looked from me to him, turned around, flagged, and disappeared down the drain to the bottom field.
I guess everything worked like I had planned except for me paying attention.

I'm about to head out to the wood splitter.
The boy child left his muzzleloader in the truck so I'm gonna take an orange hat and see if a deer is curious again this year and comes check out the commotion. Seems that every year we switch from food to heat they come watch us work.

I took a good look at what I had while I was down today and I believe I have developed a plan. If I take out the small trees I think I can latch on to the 5 or 6 bigger trees and turn them parallel to the road. Then all I need to do is trimm off the limbs on the field side to eliminate that problem. I'll be able to run a tiller next to and under the trees and plant mammoth sunflowers to grow up through them next spring. That should make a good privacy screen for the summer and fall and provide some enticement for the doves.

Righr after the beans came out in mid October I walked along the road and laid over 50 to 60 yards of 6 to 12 inch diameter mulberry trees. They were hinged, but not to leave because they were encroaching on the field. I cut them at chest high and we decided to let them be for a while. I have zero idea if the deer were grateful but I know for certain numerous spotlighters weren't.

My biggest concern with solar farms has to do with them looking like water sources to waterfowl as the migrate at night.

We had our home insurance with American Family until a couple of years ago. Our rates went up and we were having trouble meeting with the agent. My wife even called the corporate office to try to speak to someone and they transferred her back to the unresponsive agent who insisted we set up an in person meeting. We live a little over an hour away from his office. She then dove into the policy and found that they had added things like exotic animal coverage, increased the amount they would pay for our possessions, and a few other needless things without our knowledge. welder I would check your policy for new items and negotiate them back down as part of your comparison. My in-laws had the same rate increases we did and they were able to negotiate back down for a while. They may have ended up switching once they had time to shop around. This is why I left AmFam years ago, except in reverse. The local agent took coverage away we "weren't using to save us money" and I only found out when I needed to use the coverage and ended up paying the entire bill out of pocket. It was so widespread the office ended up closing its door here in town.
