Hunting Muscatatuck NWR today....all quiet so far. About 10 trucks in line at the gate. Also, gate did not open till 6:45 am so when they say one before sunrise, it’s true. No sense on getting here early for all those other hunters who were drawn. Let us know how your day goes. Im drawn for Wednesday.

Look forward to retirement after death 😄. I'm 44 and have a 3, 10, and 12 year old. Retirement will be a ways out for me but i still save for it. Here is the interestimg part to me. Within the next month I'll turn 47 and my kids will turn 26 and 24. For a bunch of like minded people, every aspect of our lives is different.

To cover my expenses, I am the receiving department at a local factory. I've been warming the seat of a forklift for the majority of my adult life. With the panic buying the smarter and overpaid people at work have been doing I am now doubling as David Copperfield. I can hide things in that building that nobody can see but they are sure it's there. To be honest, lately my days feel like I'm herding cats.
For a living, I try my best to enjoy every possible moment I have outdoors. I have been teaching hunter education for 20 years and introduce as many kids as I can to the outdoor lifestyle.

Basically you could say the same about a lot of the game laws in all reality! I agree with that, I see this as a "Well I see you don't have a license or a stamp what other laws are you breaking?" Type of law. Probably not something they are going to go after unless they caught someone breaking a more noticeable violation or it's blatantly obvious. Can you imagine how long it would take to ask every hunter they came across to show them all the shells they have? "Ok is that all you have? Do you have any in your jacket? Do you have anymore in your pack?..." This isn't a violation that they go out looking for from their initial contact with a hunter. I don't use lead sinkers but how many times has a game warden checked me for lead sinkers while fishing? ZERO. Same thing. On the shell limited waterfowl hunts, they absolutely check and count your ammunition. Obviously a different situation, but checks are done and tickets are written.

I know greghopper posted some links to threads above but the links dont work with tapatalk. The only mention of 10 rounds in the E-regs (which is not law), is very clearly referenced to HPRs on private land. Unfortunately, it's not the regulation book that is the gospel. In the actual IAC code (quoted in the links provided) is where the definition of rifle and all laws related to them got wires crossed. Basically, the legislature tried to write laws for the new HRPs and weren't enlightened enough to write the definition clearly separating the HPRs from the previously legal rifles. I believe the 10 round limit was a negotiated compromise to get enough votes on board to pass the HPR law. Again, if we had one rule for everywhere, things wouldn't be so cloudy.

Last Friday or Saturday I was waterfowl hunting on public land. Had 2 deer hunters motor by my boat and decoys just after daylight. Saw a guy in a treestand about 100 yards away on my way out. Not a word was said but hi and good luck. I want to believe that most people understand that multi-use public land is just that, especially this late in the year.

And people think they can get away with this kind of stuff. Worse yet, he probably won't see jail time and will just have to pay the money back at a minimal amount per month.

I realize these folks have no intention of doing so but imagine if they sold it to the state for public hunting opportunities? Put in on a lottery for x# of spots. Make it 10 bucks per entry or even 50 bucks per entry and only one entry per person so no Mr. Moneybags could stuff the box? That would be a cool thing in my mind. That would be wonderful, but the state would have to have the money for it.

I noticed something at the park hunt and down at Roush Lake this year. In the past I heard a LOT of 5 and 6+ shot volleys. They seem to be less and less every year. Could it be the use of bolt guns for Centerfire and fewer semi-autos and pumps? Maybe the 10 bullet limits stops them from cranking off mag dumps. What is your thoughts? Same in your areas? Is that 10 round limit for all rifles or just the HPRs that aren't legal on public land?

From what I keep reading on this forum, the hardest thing to fool is ducks in Indiana. Apparently there aren't any. :-)

The obvious answer is quite clear, whichever one you are trying to kill at the time.

You gave it 10 times more effort than 99% of most other park hunters would have. I applaud your perseverance and honesty. Thanks, I honestly enjoyed part of it for the learning experience. I’m guessing it was a brisket shot. Who knows, maybe she will live. Deer are very tough critters If she was limping off on 3 legs, im guessing you hit a bit low on a leg and didn't get vitals. I'm also very surprised another hunter didn't shoot her. To ease your suffering, just remember the park hunts are designed to reduce the number of stomachs on the property. They absolutely prefer them to go home with hunters, but they also DO NOT allow anybody to shoot coyotes because they harass and eat deer. You have not only removed stomachs from the property, you have fed a coyote or two. You're a good man, Charlie Brown and have put forth every effort to recover that deer.

It took Versailles 10 years or so, but they finally got hunters back to where I usually go. They told me they were trying to get more people back there, so I can't be surprised.
Brother got 3 this morning out of the 6 that came through.

I use a handycam cx675 for most hunts and a sony a6000 for spot and stalk stuff. I can PM you a link to the youtube collection, don't really like the idea of spamming the forum. The handy cam isnt great, but I film mostly for my own enjoyment and review shot placement. Please, send me the link.

We've had quite a few confrontations over the years. Im much cooler headed than my dad. I told one guy if a deer meant that much to him go ahead and hunt. I walked away from a 150+ inch 11 pointer in Brown County because of that. My shot was clearly on the deer, just a bit off. I told the guys congratulations and left. Then chuckled the entire way up what felt like a half mile of hill to the road.

I have no idea, but a buddy likes to video, I can ask him. Self filming or somebody else filming? Gun mounted or stand alone? I'm not looking for gun mounted because I don't want to be restricted as to what I can point the camera at. I figure a stand alone camera would work for self or secondary filming.

After the experience with the otter and a few asking why I didn't have video, I believe I have decided I want a video camera.
I am not looking for television show quality but would like something decent.
Does anybody want to share some experience with and recommendations for and decent camera I could fim turkey, deer, and waterfowl hunts with hopefully some cool non target experiences to boot?

I haven't killed an antlered deer 5 years now, I think. Might actually have been 7 when I shot an 8 pointer with my daughter that she couldn't get a shot on and begged me to take it. That deer still haunts me because I had an absolute tank on camera that was broadside at 40 yards just 8 days later. I honestly only use 1 deer a year now that the kids are out of the house. I try to take a deer and help out those who ask, but I haven't felt any pressure to take antlers in a while. It helps that the entire neighborhood has evolved to chasing big and old deer. Once the poachers, trespassers, and road warriors got ran out of the area that transformation went pretty quick. I thought about this while watching the squirrels play in the rain and snow this morning. At the reduction hunts I truly am after stomachs, so my standards are simply safe, ethical, lethal shot.. I have all 3 possible deer spoken for before I go and everybody knows its no guarantee. As for regular season, my standards and their relaxing have changed over time. Prior to getting my lifetime license the standards were basically if it was legal. After, especially after I had it long enough to pay for itself, the standards stiffened up. Honestly, after having my license for a while I no longer felt the pressure to even go. The lack of stress has made the outdoor experience better in my opinion.

2 of the last 4 guys to walk in cut me off and already shot I'm just off a horse trail and expected people. Seen 2. There was several shots for a bit, but that has ended for a while.
