If you see the guys on the atv have them help drag your deer. Do what? Two guys in front 9f me checking in had an atv. Showed their disabled hunter permit and was told they could use t on paved roads and ALL marked trails. I could see roads and horse trails, but the walking trails and mountain biking trails are just asking for somebody to get killed.

Live from the camper. Set up at versailles hoping for more snow than rain in the morning. Beautiful evening looks like a dozen or so rigs set up and one group in tents. I have definitely out grown that. The knee isn't happy about the hike, but the MRI isn't until Wednesday so any damage is the same damage right? :-) Expect 1-2 inches.... southeast Indians is the hot spot so to say! I'd prefer 3 to 4 but I'll be happy with any white blanket I can get.

Grandson missed six pointer at about 70 yards. He is having fun though! And that, at any age, is truly the important thing.

Dang I bet that was cool but no pics? ? All I had was my cell phone and was honestly too wrapped up to think about it. After they went back to the den I was thinking I need to look into a good video camera. My hunting partner always talks about filming hunts, but that just hasn't been a priority to me. Things like this are what I regret not having video of.

I decided to take the boat and new blind for it's inaugural trip this morning. Wind must have been low last night because the geese were roosted in the open water instead of where I planned for them to be. Slid right into 30+ that I saw blow up in the dark. A couple hundred yards later I get to my chosen bank and spook a deer right next to the water
Had some birds fly over but none worked in. Had another boat come by shortly after sun up with a couple guys deer hunting. Kind of weird seeing orange appear out of the fog. As I was leaving I saw a guy about 100 yards away on top of the ridge. My bladder was very happy he didn't have an acceptable deer come within range.
BUT, my day was perfect. I had a decoy take a little float about and I got to see 4 juvenile otter hunt it. About a half hour later I look over and there are 7 about 15 yards away. The older 4 juveniles had 3 very young pups "hunting" the duck. Absolutely the coolest thing I have personally witnessed in nature!
Today was a very special sunrise.
I did get a good look at one of the adults. It could have kept the duck. Or all the ducks. Maybe even the boat if it wanted. That thing was as big, if not bigger, than my leg!

I haven't killed an antlered deer 5 years now, I think. Might actually have been 7 when I shot an 8 pointer with my daughter that she couldn't get a shot on and begged me to take it. That deer still haunts me because I had an absolute tank on camera that was broadside at 40 yards just 8 days later.
I honestly only use 1 deer a year now that the kids are out of the house. I try to take a deer and help out those who ask, but I haven't felt any pressure to take antlers in a while. It helps that the entire neighborhood has evolved to chasing big and old deer. Once the poachers, trespassers, and road warriors got ran out of the area that transformation went pretty quick.

I'm hoping the stand is still solid and safe. Good luck It is safe I checked before climbing up but good looking out. Good luck to you as well Hey, I've been a "thud" when I was a teenager. Still can't explain how I walked away with just the wind knocked out of me. I don't want anybody to experience it

I have shot in front left, out rear right through and across the ribcage and missed the heart and both lungs. We know for sure because it went through both the front left and rear right knees and arteries.
The doe ran up on me on the ground and I swear I was defending myself. She was breathing heavy and the shot was low. She was above me about three feet above me.
Our best guess is the bullet went through while she was at full exhale. Took 3 hours of following tiny drops of blood through a logged woods on hands and knees to find her. About 2 1/2 hours in we realized the saplings were streaked with blood about 18 inches up. We ate that deer with serious contempt like it was our jobs.

Trying a small woods next to a picked corn field tonight, haven't been in this stand for 2 years. Hopefully the deer have gotten used to no hunting pressure. Need 1 doe to finish deer season before I start chasing bunnies! I'm hoping the stand is still solid and safe. Good luck

Honestly, without seeing the full body, neither look like they've been there more than this year sometime.

Watching the day brighten up from an old buddy stand. It's just the top ladder section but high enough to avoid the orange on blind requirements since its completely wrapped. The drainage creek in the woods down the hill from me is quite noisy today.
I believe that was shot number one today.

I spent 3 hours in the barn putting together a boat blind that the company said should take an hour. The knee is sore and stiff but not killing me. I'm gonna give tomorrow a go and see how it feels. Not gonna lie, that new 4 wheeler is gonna haul my butt all the way back.
I have a park hunt Monday and Tuesday that mother nature is trying to send some white stuff our way for so I do not want to miss it. MRI on Wednesday then I'll find out at the follow up what the ortho has in mind. He already told me from the comparison x-rays that my left knee is completely shot and the only option was replacement when I just couldn't stand it anymore. He then was scratching his head when he found out my perfect looking right knee is the current problem and my left doesn't hurt at all.

What people make is honestly not my business, or the government's. Implementing a minimum wage in the flyover states equal to factory wages shows just how disconnected the people pushing for it really are.

Circle of life, yes. Still illegal without landowner consent. Of course. I didnt mean to forgive something illegal or stupid, dumping without permission. Just saying we put ours out in OUR approved spots and let nature take its course. Same here. Our local bald eagle finished most of ours this year. The two red hawks didn't get much this year.
