One of the best ways to make a deer stand disappear is to leave it unchained on public land. LOL!

I woke up at 4am, went to the garage to load the truck and said nah I'll give it a go next weekend. I turned around and went right back to bed. That gut feeling for once played off with as windy as it today.

I am heading out in am also. Looks like no sleep November is moving into no sleep entire season now. I'll get 4-5 hours, had 5 hours last night due to hitting the range today for some guns and bow. Crossbow I'm comfortable at 30 was shooting 40 good but get real when it comes to public forest and no tree stand.
Good luck all!

Oh how the littlest things can affect the shot. Sounds like we will be hitting our season off around the same time, along with some others on here, big action yet to come to the good ol "live from the stand" thread!"
Anyone else lose considerate amounts of sleep pre and during deer season?

Guys be easy, we all been in his shoes, I think if bucks and clays bow hunts he should hunt the area he last had blood preferably on the first deer, but now on either deer. Always give more than what you think is good enough on trying to recover a deer, you owe that to the deer.
My first bow shot at a deer, let alone a buck, a spike. I took the perfect shot, but as the arrow got to him I hit shoulder. I saw the arrow flopping crazily as he ran off. I waited an hour, then text my uncle and he brought the rest of the fam and friends over to my stand another 45 min, I climbed down and we began to comb the area, found the arrow broke next to a tree, only 2-3 inches missing. We combed more area... no hair, no blood even at the shot site. scoured a 100 yd area surrounding. The following evening and next day I hunted the same area more to where I had last seen him run and further in the direction he should have gone. Nothing.

Me: I would have kept walking, a little slower but half a mile is half a mile, there are more than just those 4-5 sets of eyes (deer) out there. A thought May be those deer are bedded closer in to that area you seen.
Did you scout the area any on the way out?

Do you use any cover scent or scent killer sprays?

Try some evenings if you've only been hunting mornings, try and get out there around 2pm and sit till dark.
Anywhere between cover and food regardless of crop type. Mix it up each time you hunt. If your not seeing any action.

So I should start considering a youth .410 and hold off on on buying my son a .44 mag youth rifle? I’d get him a .300 aac pistol he’ll love it I'm afraid I'd love the .300 more. And he would never have a chance... I don't have any private land to hunt.

Just received this in an email: Important corrections to Indiana Hunting & Trapping Guide Indiana deer and waterfowl hunters need to be aware of two important changes in the print version of the 2017-2018 Hunting & Trapping Guide. Due to recent legislation passed this year by the Indiana General Assembly, hunters can no longer use rifles when hunting deer on public land. “Public land” includes both state and federal property. Before the change, the use of rifles on public land had been legal. It remains legal to use a muzzleloader, shotgun or handgun when hunting deer on public land in accordance with deer hunting regulations. The waterfowl correction is that the daily bag limit for black ducks is two. The printed Hunting and Trapping Guide mistakenly states the bag limit as one. The online Indiana Hunting & Trapping Guide has been updated with these corrections. You can view the updated guide at wildlife.IN.gov/2343.htm For more information on rifle requirements for deer hunting on private land, visit wildlife.IN.gov/7389.htm and click on “Equipment.” For up to date information on waterfowl seasons, visit: wildlife.IN.gov/3569.htm Buy your license | Where to hunt | Hunting guide | Fishing Guide Like us on Facebook Follow us on Twitter Follow us on Instagram YouTube Link Sign up for email updates Bookmark and Share Manage Email Settings | One-Click Unsubscribe | Help | Contact Us This email was sent to whitetaildave24@yahoo.com using GovDelivery Communications Cloud on behalf of: Indiana Department of Natural Resources · 402 West Washington Street · Indianapolis, IN 46204 · (317) 232-4200 GovDelivery logo So I should start considering a youth .410 and hold off on on buying my son a .44 mag youth rifle?
