Walking in to my "spot" pre dawn as usual. This time however, the flashlight catches glowing eyes. About 4 or 5 sets randomly spread out just off the old logging trail I was walking along. Im confident they were deers. I had considered for a second to just back out and wait for dawn then try a spot and stalk. My "spot" is still another half mile down the trail. Decided forget it and kept going, in hopes they would eventually make it down the trail. Well i sat till noon, saw tons of squirrel action but no deers. Been wondering all day if a spot and stalk would of been the better call. What would you do?

Me: I would have kept walking, a little slower but half a mile is half a mile, there are more than just those 4-5 sets of eyes (deer) out there. A thought May be those deer are bedded closer in to that area you seen.
Did you scout the area any on the way out?

It's public land where I hunt. I am pretty familiar with that whole track, been hunting it for years. Where those deers were bedded I've seen deers there too in the past but that particular area just doest seem to have the food or cover to hold them. I'm thinking more chance encounter. But walking towards them I was down wind so a stalk could of worked.... maybe.

I'd kept walking. If that happens it seems like I have better luck just getting to where I am going and settling in. Don't think I have ever shot one doing the stop and stalk but have shot one more than once by just keep on walking.
