I hunt on the Mississineaw grounds. Where I hunt, the bean fields are still up as is the corn on the Mississineaw property. The beans are brown but the corn is still semi-green. I have been out each day this week in the AM and only saw 2 deer both very early and too dark to make a good shot. I set up a ground spot about 35 yards opposite of a seemingly well used trail. My spot looks across the bean field.
The wooded areas are pretty thick so if I set up in the woods on the ground behind some natural cover, my field of view will be quite limited. Temps have been on the warmer side this week and the crops are still standing. Do either of these have an effect on the deer moving much in the open (aka the bean fields)?
Any thoughts on getting more sightings?
Thanks!

I would do one of two things: scout the corn to see if any deer are bedding inside of it...public can be a crap shoot as to whether deer will do this due to pressure possibly higher than normal.
OR....this time of year with beans turned and corn not a huge food source, I'm hunting acorns hard. Find that exclusive small cluster of white oaks NOT in the larger oak flats where everyone else will go. You find a pocket of oaks somewhat near cover and only hunt evenings...that has been good for a lot of folks on public pressured land.

Thanks. The pressure is not too great now at least according to the sign in sheets at the check in booth.
I've not found much sign of tracks on the area between the corn and the woodline. It's been plenty wet this week too.
There is an oak that's dropping just inside the trail I noted above by about 15 yards.

Deer have few reasons to move much right now. Food is plentiful. The rut is not on. Daytime temperatures are still fairly warm.
The words "October Lull" have been around for years for a reason ....

I concur they aren't moving well, but you find those oaks back in (deep) on public near bedding and you'll see deer....may not be a shooter (depending on hunter) but you'll see deer.

Try some evenings if you've only been hunting mornings, try and get out there around 2pm and sit till dark.
Anywhere between cover and food regardless of crop type. Mix it up each time you hunt. If your not seeing any action.

This is a fickle time of year...I hunted Wednesday evening and saw 25 deer from my stand. Today I'm hunting 150 yards from that spot and I've yet to see a deer.
