Well...I saw one 4.5 year old 8 pointer... I was driving to where I hunt in Washington County this afternoon and @ about 2:50 pm, the aforementioned buck ran out in front of me and took a ride on the hood of my car. After I hit him, he slid down the road, got up and ran off... The car is @ the body shop, a rental is in the driveway... WOW!! I have hit and killed 3 in 40 years and only damaged 1 car. A beater that I drove home and took a zaw saw and tractor bucket to and fixed it as good as new. Well, kind of any way.

I would try to hunt with the wind blowing the opposite directions you expect the deer to come from no matter if it blows in to the field or woods. If you hace deer come from all directions I would hunt with wind blowing away from direction I expect the (BIG) buck to come from or if doe hunting the opposite direction I expect the majority of the does to come from.
It.does not matter which direction the wind blows as long as the deer are not down wind as long as you are mot worried about messing up future hunts.
I have always hunted high (20 feet or more) so i have a 20 to 30 yd buffer strip on the down wind side for deer to pass with out winding me. It has worked too.

The concept of being scary is good but i think it is anti fishing. Like something PITA would put out

Congratulations on a very good looking deer. From the picture the body Looks to be of good size too. Glad it all came together for you. You had a rough go where for a bit. Glad some of the advice was helpful. Onebentarrow Thanks, he's a big boy, had a ton of fat on him. We'll get close to 60 pounds of meat by the time it's all said and done! I'll bet you still got a big smile on your face (as I would have also) and I bet you do or sleep too much to night. I am really happy for you. Congratulations again.

Got it done tonight... after this stupidly long week I hammered this buck tonight at 15 yards. He didn't run 50 as I double lunged him. He had some serious ground shrinkage, his G4's and brow tines were broke off from fighting. But this isn't about the size of the buck, this buck got my blood flowing and made me excited. I saw 5 other bucks the last two days since that shot Tuesday. I've put more than 30 hours into looking the last 3 days and to no avail. But what matters is that I've learned more than I could've ever imagined, about more than just shot placement, persistence, tracking, patience, etc. but what it means to be a hunter and be committed to the passion. Tuesday night I was ready to give up. And last night I passed on a couple decent bucks, just watching. But tonight I felt back like I belonged, and I made the perfect shot with him quartering away. So thank you to everyone who has encouraged me this last week. This buck is for you all. Congratulations on a very good looking deer. From the picture the body Looks to be of good size too. Glad it all came together for you. You had a rough go where for a bit. Glad some of the advice was helpful. Onebentarrow

Success! Took the day off today to hunt, and lo an behold, this guy came within range of my Wicked Ridge Invader G3. This is my first harvest; I'm 32 and started hunting in 2014. My first shot was a little off, but sounded good. While I was waiting, 8 does came through the same area! Just when I was starting to get antsy about tracking him, he showed back up about 45 yards away obviously not doing too well. He bedded down and I was hoping he'd expire right there. As I was waiting (again) he got up and gave me another broadside shot. This time I made my mark and he dropped about 50 yards away, right on the edge of my property! He may not have the most impressive rack, but I'm happy to get one under my belt! The only thing I have a problem with is society today has pushed younger/new hunters to worry about the size of the animal or the decoration on it's head. That is a fantastic deer, first or otherwise. Congratulations to you, and fantastic job on staying put and giving that deer time. Especially enough time to come back and let you finish the job. Enjoy your success, and especially dinners to come. What he said x 2

This is the one thing I wish someone would have told me many years ago once I started my recovery rate went from 40 percent to 100 percent yes I could still screw up but the odds sure are a whole lot lower. On the ground I could center drill a paper plate at 45 50 yards all day long and this was with a bow 25 years ago when a 30 yard shot was forever. Get in a tree and I would miss or screw up on a deer at 15 20 yards. When I started hunting 30 + hrs ago I missed the first 5 deer I shot at and could group 5 arrows in 2 in at thirty yards. I talked to every one to see if i could find out what was going on because I could not understand it. I had even practiced from a tree and was doing the bending at the waist. I had a lady tell me I was not following thru when i shot AT a deer. Never missed a deer in the next 10 years. I have also found out that if I hurry the shot,I miss,or worse yet do not hit where I aim. I am not being critical I am just giving you some of my experience. I have killed 3 deer, two that were carrying broadheads in there body that were doing just fine and one that had a scar on its leg from being shot. We have all screwed up. If we haven't we have not hunted much or have not told the truth. I have been In Your shoes. Beat my self up bad about it too. I am not with you so i do not know your mind set but another thing you may want to try is to quit trying to "KILL" a deer. Go with the mind set to enjoy the experience and if you happen to kill a deer that is icing on the cake. As I stated I hope some of these ideas and information may help you and if not you some one that is reading in the back ground may receive some information they needed. Best of luck. Onebentarrow

I got this 7 pt buck today just after 8am. The woods was really quiet today after yesterdays rain & I just about missed him. But he stepped on a large stick that made a huge crack. Had to wait for him to get to the other side of the tree I was in. Took him at 20 yds. Not huge but will fill the freezer. imgur.com/a/K3L9AHe's a pretty one! Congrats! Congratulations. You do not have to apologise for him not having a big rack to me.i have killed meny deer that size and they are just as good as a bigger one

Well, I got some time to shoot new crossbow. Got out yesterday morning. Followed instructions in book for sight in. It said shoot at 10 yards. I did purfict left and right,1 in high. Then go to 20 yes. It was 3 in high. Adj. Scope down and shot. 1/2 in off high. Then said to go to 50 yds and shoot so I did. Was 3 1/2 in high. Adj scope down again and reshot. Dead on. Then said to go shoot at 20 yes again and if high or low adj speed ring. Shot at 20 and was dead perfict. The scope is (suposto) be set for all dots from 20 to 100. Did not have time to see. Easiest sight in I ever had. The cocking mechanism is great. It can be cocked with out noise but you have to hold down small lever and be real careful not to slip. The uncocking is a sinch too. Only falt was it was blowing thru 2 targets. Not really a fault. I could not see arrows in flight from 20 yds it is so fast and at 50 I could only see them in the last 25% of flight. Looked to only have a foot or less trajectory at 50 yds. So far I am extremely pleased with it. It is NOT front heavy like so meny I have handled and it is so narrow it is unbeleavable. To me it seems to handle like a some what heavy rifle with a bull barrel. I think it will be great in a blind and tree stand. Will update as time goes on

Only mature deer I have behind the house, now if I can get him hitting the food plot in daylight. That's a big old rascal! He needs 2 more years to get to his potential. But if he walked by me he would never see it. Haha

It was wateing on me when i got home tonight. I unpacked it. Read the destruction book. Put scope on loosely and the quiver. So far I really really like it. It seems narrower than the pictures and handles good. There is a section in the book on how to sight in scope. If you follow them you will be sighted on on each yardage mark out to 100 yards in the scope with only sighting in two marks. Hope to have some time to shoot tomarrow. Will let you know how things work out.
PS. I do not care if it is dead on at 100 yards. I am NOT gona shoot at a deer that far. Period

I guess no one read my last reply to this post, because everyone keeps beating this issue to death. The bottom line is that scientific studies have shown baiting for deer does NOT improve hunter success. So, why is this thing even an issue? Bucks will come to the bait, but almost always at night. I guess bait might work in the daytime for a green young of the year doe, but not a nice buck. Yep. I agree. Bucks will not come to bait in daylight and these pictures prove it.

My real estate agent. 80 acres,20 woods. I had purchased 35 acres thru her just for hunting, then we.took a 15% pay cut to keep our jobs and I was just barely marking ends meet so I put it up for sale thru her. She knew why I bought and why I was selling and when we walked out of the closing she ask me if i had found a place.to hunt and I told her no. She ask me if i wanted to hunt her place. I said YES. Been hunting it about 7 years now. Only one with permission.
