The wind is your Friend this time of year when bass fishing. Bass haven't gone on the beds yet....too early. The wind is hard to deal with and most fisherman head to a cove or bank with a windbreak to get out of it. Wrong answer. Fish the banks, pockets, and humps with a spinner bait that the wind is blowing directly against and HOLD ON!!! Jerk bait and crankbaits work well also. Keep moving, work that trolling motor, and fight the wind......it will pay off big time. Carolina rig on real gravelly or fist size rock gentle sloping banks or humps work well also as spots will bed in these places later a little later on from 3-15' of water. Fish Doctor in green pumpkin works good with a Carolina rig. Try it....you'll like it! (Make sure both trolling motor batteries are fully charged)

My '67 Chevelle SS that I bought in 1985 and still own. Restored it myself over many years. Has a .030 over 454 with a Comp XE284 cam, worked over heads, Air Gap intake, 770 holley, aluminum radiator, everything brand new or rebuilt from headlights to tail lights. 3.42 posi rear. Turbo 400 tranny. Very fast and I love it and drive it every nice day I get a chance. My senior year of high school in '76 I had a '69 Mach I 428 Cobra Jet 4 speed R code car. Paid $800 for it and sold for the same when I joined the USMC later that year. Wife has a '04 Mustang Mach I in Azure Blue which is pretty quick too but she just babies it around. Original poster....very nice and fast car you got there!!!!

Sounds good. Anything to occupy young people's minds and time besides the street or a computer screen is great. I have always enjoyed one on one sports more than team anyway. Competitive bass fishing is a very mental and physically demanding sport. I fished in a local bass tournament this past Saturday put on by local college students who are part of that school's bass fishing team in order to help them raise money to go to Alabama for their national tournament. We placed 5th with 8 1/2 pounds. 2nd had 17 pounds with 4 fish and the winner.................. 28 lbs + change with 5 largemouth. What a catch.

Well, it was definitely a deer scrape under a overhanging branch that I saw a month ago. There was even the hoof marks and dirt throwed back on top of the leaves. I found it peculiar.

I called my landowner friend the night of the tornados. He was/is ok. He told me of seeing 6 bucks together in his lane the week before. 2 big ones, 3 basket racks, and a very large spike. A lady here where I live almost ran one over in the road a couple of days ago and it still had both sides. Checking my traps 2 weeks ago and lo and behold a fresh scrape under a hanging branch. Wild, ?

I'm like you. Do everything I can myself whether it be car or home repair. Gotta save the money. Most get $600 around here to pull and replace an engine. That doesn't include any other mechanical work. 1 day job if you stay busy. My well pump went out the other day but......I had to be at work that day so I hired a local well drilling place. $900 dollars!!!!!!! 2 hours labor and a new pump. You can buy a pump for $350 online and really about 2 hours labor but they charge $80/hour labor. Could have saved $550 staying at home and got paid too on a vacation day. Don't mind someone making a dollar but not all at one time out of my pocket. LOL

HighCotton, Yeah, give me a holler when you come down. I live in Hayesville out 64E from Murphy about 20 min. Right across the line from Hiawassee, GA. Lots of great riding for sure. There is a Chevelles in Hayesville also now. Deals Gap in Ga is a great ride. Ride from here to Franklin NC and the out 64 to Highlands NC and then to Cashiers NC is a great ride also. Too many to choose from. If I could, I would love to ride with you all one day while you are here. Herbie

Don't know of a sea food place in Murphy except for Long John Silvers. Shoe Booties, Chevelles, Cedar Hill Rest. are all good places.

Put those delicious backstrap in the frig and cook them tomorrow! Took quite a while to thaw from a deep freezer. Only been out 12 hours. No way they ruined.

Prayers sent for all the good people of southern Indiana. Just talked to my landowner friend in Otisco. He is ok. He watched two tornado's go by from his front yard. Those destroyed Marysville. Hail the size of softballs. A friend and his girlfriend that I hunt with live in Henryville. Haven't been able to get in contact with him yet. Terrible tragedy up there. I wish I lived closer so I could help out people. Well, just showed on the weather channel we are now in a tornado watch here where I live for the next 30 minutes. Sad business.

I live in the western NC mountains on the TN/GA border. The spots in our lake, Chatuge, are of the Alabama strain as well as the other lakes around. 4 other lakes within 30 minute drive time. Chatuge is about 7200 acreas. The other lakes are close to the same. Have fun at Guntersville. If you ever get this way, give me a holler.

Lake, there is also a difference in the Alabama and Kentucky strains of spotted bass. Alabama strain of spots gets larger. Been 6 #'ers caught in some of the local lakes. Great power runs. The lake at the end of my road had predominantly small mouth bass and then the bass fisherman started transporting spots from Lake Lanier up here and dumping them in the lake. Years ago now and the spots have taken over. Rare to catch a smallmouth now.

Very informative with great maps and data. Thanks for sharing. I found it interesting that only about 3% of bucks will make it to 150-159" even at 5 1/2 years old if I read the graph correctly. A 150" buck is a magnificient animal to behold for sure. Most hunters will never get one. Hats off to those who do It seems that sometimes we as hunters think we are "entitled" to one but we are not. Hard work, luck, good hunting area, and skills help though for sure towards a great reward.
