Then like I also said..... ANY breaking, stepping on breaking branches walking in is also illegal according to this. So back to, hope you don't break any branches s walking in the dark Can't just pick n choose when you want to use this Also better keep those climbers off the trees! They damage the bark I'm not picking or choosing aything, just posting what the rules are on the forest service. I would think most reasonable people including law enforcement officers would accept that some limbs are going to be broken or heaven forbid cut by hunters. I should only hope not to run into a law enforcement officer that sees things as black and white as you. I would compare it to driving 60 in a 55, yeah it's technically illegal but most reasonable people/police officers accept the fact that you are exceeding the speed limit and no action is taken. But there is that occasional XXXXX that doesn't but I'll take my chances.

The only thing that needs increased is the non resident deer license and it needs to be doubled at a minimum. Everything else should be left alone.

I just sent the pics to Mr. Snow. Please know that I probably should have let him go on, but I saw horns running. On my defense, I don't have a scope just open sights and he was 70-80 yards when I pulled the trigger. Cmon.. Don't say that. He is meat in the pan and you had a successful hunt and you're happy. That is what counts. Congratulations! Exactly, you killed it be proud of it.

This is my 28th deer season. I wish I had kept a journal but since I didn't I have no idea how many deer I have killed but I do know it's over 100.

fowlhunter True, but it's my understanding that it would qualify for B&C. Correct

(from another site) "There is an unfortunate situation unfolding around this buck. The antlers were confiscated this past weekend by the Iowa DNR. The kid who shot it is 19 years old. The buck was shot with a crossbow, which is illegal in Iowa unless a doctor can provide documentation of an upper extremity problem that renders a person unable to shoot a compound bow. Last year, Austin Pontier was issued a crossbow permit due to a shoulder injury sustained while wrestling in high school. The latest information I am hearing is that he did not get his crossbow permit renewed for this season, therefore making his crossbow an illegal weapon. I hope this does not end up being the case, as the buck gross scores 214" typical and has a legitimate shot at Mel Johnson's 204 7/8" net archery typical record. The Iowa DNR has a reputation for being overly aggressive in situations like this...IE the Joe Franz Buck. It has also been reported the Field & Stream had previously offered Pontier $75,000 to keep the story about the buck off of social media and give them an exclusive cover story on it. Bass Pro also reportedly offered the kid $300,000.00 for the antlers. Both offers were made before the DNR took the rack this past weekend."
Regardless of the legality of it the deer wouldn't qualify for the archery world record anyway since it was killed with a crossbow.

I'd say a significant portion of the deer checked in are killed illegally. So you are saying a significant portion of hunters are poaching lawbreakers then I don't think so ! I would say the number of deer killed while baiting, killed outside of shooting hours, deer checked in by someone other than the person who actually killed it, killed while trespassing, or killed with an illegal weapon could easily account for several thousand of the deer that get checked in.

You listed several reasons for missing their call, one of them being that you were driving. You have no one to blame but yourself for not having talked to them by now. I'd say after a few missed calls they assume you weren't too serious about taking their call and move on.

There are several things ruining hunting, trail cameras are just one of them. Having said that, to each their own but they aren't for me.

So I just bought my hunting/fishing license. Been a little busy. The last couple years I bought the deer tag bundle. Wasted both years. What I'm thinking about doing is buying tags on an as needed basis. Is there any issue with doing this? Like going out, shooting a deer, tracking, then purchasing the tag with my phone, then check it in? Just don't want to waste a bunch of money on unused tags again. If you consider your money wasted because you did not kill a deer you need to rethink your approach to hunting. And as far as it being expensive show me any other type of recreation that you can participate in from October 1st to the first Sunday in January for $65 assuming you buy the bundle license.

There is only one way to beat a deer's nose and that is to be down wind of it.
