So I just bought my hunting/fishing license. Been a little busy. The last couple years I bought the deer tag bundle. Wasted both years. What I'm thinking about doing is buying tags on an as needed basis. Is there any issue with doing this? Like going out, shooting a deer, tracking, then purchasing the tag with my phone, then check it in? Just don't want to waste a bunch of money on unused tags again.

Yeah, it illegal. You have to have your tags prior to hunting.

Well, guess that answers that. Wasted money here I come, again. Lol. Why do I pick the expensive stuff? Hunting ain't cheap. Owning a boat ain't cheap. And marriage, that ain't cheap either. 😂

Buy the bundle, its cheaper than the fine when a CO checks your license.

Buy the bundle, its cheaper than the fine when a CO checks your license. Wish the bundle covered reduction zone. Only a couple days left anyway til I can use the bundle for reduction zone and not worry about taking a doe before a buck. I want to be able to check the doe in as reduction zone cause then I can take 2 bucks this season. Isn't that correct?

Deer License Bundle DOES NOT cover reduction zone, NO MATTER WHAT DATES YOU HUNT. To check deer in as reduction zone and subsequently take a second antlered deer all reduction zone deer must be checked in on a reduction zone license.

No license, no hunt...

I have permission for a property that happens to be in a reduction zone. I can hunt said property from Sept 15-Jan 31. After Oct 1, I can use the deer license bundle for this property if I want. I've called DNR about it. From Sept 15-Sept 30 if I harvest a deer I have to use the reduction zone tag. Same thing at the end of the season when it goes back to reduction zone only. Is this not correct?

And planes; my wife's family knows all about that. She's said many times at least my pastimes are cheaper than her father's and brother's.

If you consider your money wasted because you did not kill a deer you need to rethink your approach to hunting. And as far as it being expensive show me any other type of recreation that you can participate in from October 1st to the first Sunday in January for $65 assuming you buy the bundle license.

I guess wasted isn't the best term for it. I had a great experience even though I didn't get a deer.

I guess wasted isn't the best term for it. I had a great experience even though I didn't get a deer. Just remember, some of us hunted in the 70's/80's where the was a lot lower number of deer per mile. We would hunt two weeks straight and around 20-30% would get a deer and some wouldn't even see a deer. The think the average in 1983 was around 25% on the state level. I think years 1982,83,84, 86 and around 1997 I didn't get a deer. In 2012 EHD hit and once again I was lucky to get one, but a lot of hunters in the area did not. That's what hunting is all about. You appreciated even more when you are successful in harvesting a deer.

I just hunt firearms season normally and buy a firearm and 2 bonus licenses and that's it. If I still have a bonus license after firearms season, which I always do,then occasionally I'll hunt muzzle loader season some. I eat tags every year because a lot of years I don't get any and when I do it's usually just 1. I've never used the firearm license because all I usually see are anterless deer but I still buy 1 just in case. Better to have it and not need it than the other way around I say.

Is this not correct? That is correct, but you said you wanted to tag the doe as reduction zone so you could get a second buck. That only works with reduction zone tags. With the regular deer license bundle all deer count toward your state tag limit - one buck.
