Awesome job my friend! I hear ya on the muck laden boots across a chisel plowed field! No fun at all! Nice buck for sure! I wish it was muck, it was clay, wet clay. I thank you for the kind words.

Spotted him and a doe standing right out in the middle of the section. I circled around and came down a fence row and managed to get within 200 yds before I ran out of cover. Let the .243 speak and it was all over but the recovery. The half mile stalk was through a chisel plow field, I am getting too old for that kinda stuff. Lucky though I could get to him with my UTV. Drug him to the fence row and used a comealong to hoist him up a tree and load him. Field dress at 181 lbs. 8 pt. I am whipped.

I always add 20% pork fat to my burger when I grind it. Holds it together when you fry burgers.

They are protected so be careful what you do with the hide. You are correct, I am not sure you can posess one.

Wellll this is late. Yesterday after flapjacks and a run to Walmart for some estrous urine, I headed back to the woods. Got nestled in two my two man , changed socks (because I sweat like a wh*** in church)and added body warmers to my toesies (adhesive body warmers do a much better job for me than the dinky toe warmers when wrapped around your toes). I then smoked my (last cig for “a while”) like I always do when coming in mid day. I was looking down the creek to the east and started to think “I need to watch the creek lanes more, I probably miss quite a few deer crossing because I’m just looking on the ground”. I looked east for a minute or so, then turned west to look down that way. It took me about 30 seconds before I saw this buck walking up the bank my way at about 60 yards. I immediately got situated with granddaddys gun, and started following him and focusing on breathing. He made it to 15 yards and I couldn’t contain myself anymore. That 3” slug hit him like a brick sh@@house, and he didn’t take a single step after getting hit. I went up to the homeowners home, and asked if I could borrow her 12 yo son for a while so I could teach him some things (and get help dragging 😂). I gave him some hunter orange and we headed out. I taught him how to tag and field dress the deer (I’ve field dressed other people’s deer twice before), and together we drug him up a steep creek bank, 200 yards through the woods, and up the ravine to the truck. This was my first deer, and his name is Epstein. While he may not look like a trophy to most of you, I’m proud of him and will cherish this day forever. It took me 5 years of reading and learning, lots of trial (more error), hundreds of dollars in tags, countless days not seeing a deer (ouchhhhh they hurt), thousands of dollars in missed wages, and lots of determination, but I finally sealed the deal. Freezer will be full tomorrow. Buying a new freezer soon for the does I plan to harvest this year. I’m a happy man. Congratulations, something you will relive over in your many times. You never forget your first.😁

What a turn of events, I just got permission to hunt 140 acres. Went in last Sunday and walked around and thought I found a pretty good spot. Went in there Thursday evening and killed a nice doe. Then went back there this morning and at 630am I was blessed with this awesome 12 pointer with Character and good mass. Could not be happier. Congratulations, beautiful buck!
