I pulled the trigger.
I got in my "shoot house" early this morning and with the heater running part time I enjoyed a great sunrise on yet another opening day. I stayed for about 4 hours without seeing a thing then came up to the house, ate and took a nap.
At 2:30 I returned to a sun warmed "shoot house" and to find that my next door neighbor was picking his corn.
With 7 minutes left of legal shooting time a nice 8 point about 160 lbs.field dressed runs down one of my mowed pathways right by me and stops about 45 yards out giving me a picture perfect left broadside shot.
I shot the deer with my 44 mag and away he runs through the tall prairie grass.
I left my "shoot house" and followed his blood trail right to the edge of my frozen marsh. The deer is laying dead on about 3" of ice and about 30 feet from shore.
The ice wasn't thick enough to support me so I made a grappling hook and pitched it about 15 times till I finally hooked his rack and was able to pull him to shore with the help of my wife and my Kawasaki Mule.
I am forever thankful for yet another fine deer.
1 photo to follow sorry it's not a great killer shot photo but I had just about had the course by the time I took the picture.

Nice buck! I'll bet it would have been humorous for anyone watching you try to hook the buck..
