I would have to opt to represent myself ..... I have yet to meet anyone, ever, who I would let speak on my behalf. I would prefer if "this site" not be represented in any way as a whole. Not all members feel the same way about things .... not even close. Taking our poll numbers and things like that would be fine .... but if the idea is to say "I represent a site with "X" number of members and "WE" feel such and such" wouldnt fly ...... THIS^^

I mentioned that the supposed mountain lion residing on Crane would help take care of any deer that hunters didn't take home when he said, " there's more than one out there.". One of the landowners I hunt on works at Crane and he told me that at least three were seen together there. I live about 5 miles from the location that the county officer saw the cougar feeding on the road-killed deer. I would take that with a grain of salt...

Probably stick with my Savage ML... I don't own a centerfire. If I were to buy one, probably a 300 win mag, so I could use out west too...

Yes, but you said chase period, which generally begins in late Oct. Gun season does not disrupt the breeding as every doe will get bred during the season, nearly every one that is. Deer season happen for a reason, generally to kill some of the deer. In Indiana and most every state, the most effective way to kill some of the deer is to hunt them with guns during the time when they are most active in daylight hours. We see other states using different time frames and still killing deer, so it's a wash when it happens. As for Indiana, they have tons of data on the current time frame. They can predict daily harvest almost to the animal with different weather conditions and so on. To throw all that data out the window just so that you and a few others can see bigger does and bigger bucks is simply crazy. The DNR sought ways to tweak what they had, not major overhaul what they had. The deer harvest peaked lastr year at 132,000, maybe a 5th of the est. population(?) what ever the population actually is, the harvest is not near enough to keep a whole heck of a lot of carry over. So, there's plenty to get old if you really want chewy deer meat??? Ooops I stand corrected... There are plenty to get old

I don't like making crossbow legal during general archery season. I don't like the firearms antlerless season after Christmas. I don't like any special early youth or muzzle loader season. I think the quantity of bonus tags is way too generous. Seasons and bag limits around my neighborhood need to be reduced, not increased. Our population has been hammered, and we don't have near as many deer as we had a few years ago. you must be confused cause timex says there are lots of deer

Why do you insist on saying I am confused? Maybe you can't comprehend what your reading?
Few questions here for timex everyone....
Does the largest portion of breeding (of whitetailed deer) in Indiana take place in November?
Hypothetically speaking... Would one reasonably expect more deer to be killed when they are most vulnerable?
So "if" firearms are not allowed during November... would that equate to an increased quantity of young deer to grow a year older by surviving till the next season?

Yep, I am not beating around the bush... No the IDNR wouldn't be providing anything to me... they would be setting up the deer season to allow the deer, not just bucks to reach a respectable age... through the act of moving the firearms season out of the primary chase phase of the rut that occurs in November... that better timex so if the DNR did what you wanted them to there would be deer crawling over each other since they must stay alive to grow older. If you want older deer on your hunting ground then let them walk yourself .The state has to keep the herd in check and quite frankly not beating around the bush here either there are gods plenty of mature bucks and does in this state .If you are not seeing enough of them then you need to become better at hunting ,find new hunting ground or manage your land and deer herd better. Now there it is layed right back on you like it should be squarely on your shoulders to make happen where your personal wants belong . So fix them yourself. I never laid anything on anyone's shoulders.... 98% of the time I hunt federal and state property, so tell me how one can manage the properties that the state and federal government own... I am not complaining about the land I hunt, access, or spots that I hunt... I see deer in "ok" numbers. But I realize it can be much better.

Show me the science....where increased hunting pressure, increased days in the field, and crossbows in earlier archery made available for all hunters... that...will equate to a healthier and older age class deer herd??? I enjoy solitude, seeing natural deer movement, and seeing more than one deer per sit. So yes show me the science that will get me what I want to see... because I really don't care what YOU want... I think it should be difficult to kill an animal. A person should have to work at it. The way I'm reading this post is that YOU want the IDNR to provide YOU with lots of targets(deer) but restrict everyone else, is that about right? The part in bold above says it all, imo. At least your honest about it. Yep, I am not beating around the bush... No the IDNR wouldn't be providing anything to me... they would be setting up the deer season to allow the deer, not just bucks to reach a respectable age... through the act of moving the firearms season out of the primary chase phase of the rut that occurs in November... that better timex

Yep, That's right... I voiced my opinion. As you have voiced yours. I don't fault you for it... I think its great that you further handicap yourself voluntarily by shooting trad, wish more where willing to do so.

Only thing i liked about the first one, was that they intended to move the firearms season out of the rut....
Yes I am an evil person who likes the chance to kill a 4.5 yr old buck, and giving more of them a chance to grow to 4.5 would have been allowed by moving the firearms season out of the rut...

The only problem with quartering that I see is there will be a LOT of waste! Most guys don't know how to properly quarter a deer, and I can imagine seeing carcasses laying around with nothing removed but the hind quarters and backstraps... In states that allow this, there are regs written that state you must remove all useable meat or face a fine for wanton waste

I think it should be difficult to kill an animal. A person should have to work at it. The goals the DNR have set forth (this package or the first) are not to create a healthier older age class deer herd. The goals they are working with is to try to reduce the deer herd to appease the perception that a large portion of the states residents have. It is impossible to manage a state wide resource to match what each individual wants. since you clearly have in mind what you want your deer hunting experience to be, you need to manage your hunting area to match those desires. If you are hunting public land, then you will need to find an area farther from the rest of the public to find your desires. Correct... I wish it were to manage for a healthier and older herd... not just to reduce numbers. no I'm not liberal...lol and no I do not use traditional or primitive hunting equipment.
