Took this dandy today.... 245 on the hoof, 209 field dressed... NOW is the time to be in the woods! Good luck to you all! This guy and another LARGE (140's) eight pointer came in after I had a doe go through earlier in the day, closest I have come to seeing two bucks of this caliber square off.... This deer motioned to the other one.... after the eight decided he wanted no part this guy turned and walked less than twenty yds away....smoked him...went 40 -50 yds! Hard quartering away shot... I would say its on! The big boys are out! Sit all day! This stud was a warrior, had a gore wound in his neck, and right in front of his right eye. The bruising on his chest was crazy, when I peeled back the skin it looked as if he had been hit by a car... You can see the tine marks on his chest from fighting!

From cranes point of view, it is a deer reduction hunt. Their is no point restiction when you go their. They want you to reduce the no. of the herd. But let me explain myself. I have never been their, long drive that started early in the morning, buddy bagged one, I am being informed prier that deer no. are low, financially we all have invested in the hunt, and it is a one day hunt. So what do you do? On the reduction hunts, if you do not shoot the guy three ridges over will. Of course I would like to have something bigger. I saw one gentleman check in what realistically probably was a 50 lb yearling. I am not judging him. Next year if I get drawn I will be letting small ones walk by. I fought myself if I should have shot after I did. Then I may go home empty. Trust me I am not bragging to people about my GIANT 4- POINTER!!!! I hope I clarify and may give some understanding. Back to the main topic, how did everyone else did. ' You did nothing wrong at all! I would have done the same. Crane for me is 400 mile round trip, 40.00 for me and my partner to hunt so any deer that comes my way is heading home in the back of my truck. I think there are enough people who are trophy hunting and meat hunting at these hunts to balance out the harvest. Ive heard of guys shooting doe or small bucks early in the morning and leaving them lay until late in the day so if they kill a big buck late in the day, they leave the small buck or doe lay. Not sure if this is true but Ive heard it told. h.h. Funny you should mention leaving the small ones lay..... Not too many years ago, right underneath a stand of ours, lay a four pointer dropped in its tracks.... Why would you do this, i think you just answered a question for me...

No disrespect sgreen
If I drove two hours, I might have an itchy finger too!
It would be nice if they would have a couple doe only hunts to improve the quality and quantity of bucks...

I seen a huge main frame 8 with kickers comming forward on the G2's.
No pics, but I seen it first hand.
Killed by a youngman hunting with his father as a dependent.
Largest main frame 8 I have seen in person.
