Good. The vast majority of people I've spoken with support the new proposals.

here it is:
Short: Proposed deer rules were recommended for preliminary adoption.
Long: Public testimony consisted of 4 individuals. One represented the Ind Bowhunters Assoc. One was a farm owner/deer hunter. Another represented himself and friends. And the final person was a bowhunter representing himself. On crossbows: the IBHA rep argued that xbow usage would just shift harvest of deer to early in the year and not reduce deer numbers. The farmer was not in favor of crossbows because he thought the deep population in his county (Rush) was low enough without introducing new weapons. The bowhunter explained that he would like to be able to use a crossbow early in the season because he had injured his hip and no longer could hunt from a tree stand. He doubted he could get a xbow permit from his MD because he could still pull back his hunting bow without difficulty.
Rule changes will not likely be implemented this coming Fall and will be on a 5 year trial basis like the OBR.
Next NRC meeting at Ft Harrison on March 15.

I was impressed at the meeting that NRC does listen to public input (likely to they are ready to throw up). Not sure I want their job.

More meetings and public input. Fine tune the proposals and implement them in 2012.

Start saving money for a .450 Bushmaster and a TAC-15 for me!.....(selfish goal)
Would be good for deer hunting if we would stop bickering over the crossbow and start talking about improving hunting deer donation programs. (altruistic goal)

GOOD DEAL!! Thank you NRC and DNR for listening to us. We need to give lots of good input to the proper sources. BUT the antis will be going to legislature and try to backdoor the whole thing. Count on it. We NEED to get this over and done with and get back to hunting.

Lets all watch and see when the NRC starts taking input.

Just like the first proposals, this is merely the beginning of a lengthy process. Whether you are for or against the proposals, everyone should give their input when the NRC opens it up for you to do so.

(altruistic goal) Amen! Imagine what could be accomplished if the energy put forth to bicker about crossbows would be put into helping people who are less fortunate,

I understand that Chairman Poynter asked Chad Stewart for his opinion and was asked to come forward to speak.
Chad said that he is for the new proposals and says science will back them up.
