jb im not going to criticize you for your oppinion. but instead of signing up to help at the HI youth hunt sign your kid up to hunt and really find out what the youth hunt is all about.

That would be a good idea. And that goes for Russ to. As many opening days that Russ has seen pass, seems a small price to pay to let the younger generation have a few.

I see positives and negatives about having the youth weekend before the archery opener. I think it comes down to this...
1. If you think it's hard to get adults not to hunt on youth weekend, try putting youth weekend later in the season after adults have already been out and the weather is colder and the rut is kicking in.
2. The colder weather is a negative for the little ones. If you want them to be able to sit for a long time in comfort and really learn to sit still, be quiet, and experience how to hunt, the end of September is just about perfect.

If you don't want the youngsters to fire up the woods the weekend before, don't let them on your property (common sense). If your hunting public property and don't want the youngsters to fire that woods up, get your own property (common sense).
Some people will gripe if they had golden nuggets dropping outa their arses.
