I have never turkey hunted but my son wants to give it a go. Got a blind, a couple decoys, and have had him pattern his gun. When you go out in the morning about how long before sunrise do you like to be set up? Legal time is a half hour before sunrise. In my area sunrise is 5:51 AM CST.I would try and be in the blind no later than 4:45 am cst. So an hour before sunrise is good. Walk in when it is dark. Do not use a flashlight. Good luck and have fun making memories! PS.. be sure and post your adventures here! + 1 WOODY'S COMMENTS

They will develop a trail between your pond and the shortest distance to a lake/river. A 220 set in the trail will take them out quickly. They are also smart critters, if you harass them at a certain location (small birdshot), they will typically avoid that area. Your recommending small bird shot would that be something like 3 1/2" 2's ?

My pond drains into a drainage ditch that runs about 100 yards to a flowing creek that goes through many farms, ponds and marshes. I believe the harassment thing will be my only choice.

featherduster you take all those tendons out of the legs or just grind it all up? I carved around some and ground some.

No apologies needed. I for one enjoy reading the stories of the hunt more than the picture of a harvest. I am pretty sure there are others that feel the same. Thanks for the story and congratulations on getting it done! PLUS 1

I filleted out the breasts, saved the tenderloins in a separate package and ground the legs and small bits. This bird will provide us with some interesting culinary delights at a later date. Next week our group will be on Lake Erie for our first Walleye trip of the year.

Today was made for turkey hunting. Sunny, calm, and cool, birds were gobbling 35 mins before legal in just about every direction. Had 3 sneak in behind me spitting and drumming about 20 feet away couldn't get turned around but they didn't spook they just walked away. I readjusted my seating and about 1/2 hour later I managed to to call a single out of a small group and just like that I finally ended a 3 year drought. I took a Jake with a 6" beard weighing 17 pounds. I will post a photo later. Learned a lot this year, can't wait for next year.

DUFF SAID:
I have no affinity to weird chest hairs or pointy leg things.
If it is legal...and I have a tag it is getting used. 10 min or last day.
YOU GOT THAT RIGHT!

Nephew is having fun today. He just called and asked if I would smoke one for him. Do you put them in a pipe or do you roll-em.
