I can't wait for fishing season. Santa came thru with a 6hp Evinrude outboard, a fuel tank and fuel line, and a fish finder. Tried going out on Christmas Eve, but nobody was eager to go and I didn't want to be the only idiot in the boat lol. Honestly, I didn't want to be the only person padding back to the boat launch, been there done that with 0 excitement lol.

You weren't fishing on Upper Red Lake, were you? LOL No, but we were considering it. There have been several people rescued from ice chunks that broke off. Red is only 45-50 minutes away but we have enough lakes around the house to keep us busy. We spent one evening chasing tip-ups for northern, they also fished for gills, crappie, walleye and perch. I think they had a blast. All 6 took their limit of fish home in all species we fished for. The guy's are getting more independent every year as far as knowing what lakes to fish and how to find and catch the fish. Now that they are gone I'll start concentrating on finding decent numbers of walleye and big perch.

Was a cold evening on the ice, should have taken my portable fish house. One 22 inch walleye (released) and a few small perch.

I guess it's time to grab the ice fishing rods and put new line on them. Maybe we will get a chance to ice fish after all. If the snow isn't bad, then the lakes and ponds will get a chance to freeze with safe ice.

Believe it or not, with the projects that are going on I'm pretty booked through about the 3rd week of February, then if nothing else happens I still have projects for myself that have to get done before the Spring rush. I DO have relatives up that way, Findlayson, MN so a long weekend is always in the cards.

A couple of my buddies hit my pond this evening, said there was 3 1/2 inches. I had pig stuff to mess with, plus, it’s stinkin cold.

A quick trip around I found all 4 of the Tri-Lakes frozen over no sign of any fishing though. Chain-0-Lakes I guys out on Norman. Miller, Sand, Dock and Bowen Lakes all iced over. I did not drive back to Long.
A few more days of this weather and it will be game on. Sand and Shriner are both late freezers. If I knew where to park that did not include a mile+ hike I would to be on Wawasees Johnson Bay as soon as the ice is 3-4" thick.

I turned the winter aerator on and punched a 20' hole in the ice in less than 2 hours so it's not that thick on my pond. Typically my pond has 1/2 the ice that Koontz Lake has.
