I was a little late getting out this morning but saw 1 as soon as I got in the woods, missed it though. I only stayed about a half hour and didn't see any more, too danged hot/muggy for me. Took the dog out to pee about 8:30 and couldn't believe how humid it was already! Looks like the forecast is for rain this weekend for me.

Hopefully a little lady named Laura will cool things down. Last time I got out I was sweating so hard the mosquitoes had to swim up stream. There wasn't a chance of keeping any repellent on my arms. It looks like Sunday morning will be cooler & the rain should be over by then.

I almost didn't even go since the forecast said it would be close to 90 by around 10:00. I should've followed my gut. We got a few sprinkles today but for Saturday anyway, our rain chances are only 15% here. I'll be putting up a new gate this weekend so I can get my ATV through for deer hunting and the not so hot weather will be more bearable.

Finally got out, this am. Saw several squirrels, but couldn't get shots. Finally, this one stopped running through the trees, and gave me a good head shot. First gray I've shot in 2 yrs. Score 1 more for team #1 LCB. Brings my total up to a pitiful 3 so far.

3 more for Team 1 LCB. Tough morning for me. Pretty windy; hard to find the squirrels today with all the tree tops moving. It was also HOT and lots of mosquitoes made it miserable. Saw a couple more squirrels, but by the time I got moved up closer to the tree I couldn't find them again. Also walked in on a fawn with spots. Personal count is now 15.

Finally got on the board! There was a nice bit of activity this morning. I heard more than I ever saw, but got two shots and missed one. Anyone ever use the Primos squirrel buster? I just got one to try after last weekend knowing they were around but not finding them. I used it a bit and actually got some response from it. After 5-10 sec of barking I got one to bark back, never found that one. And the shot I missed, I could see a tail but the rest of the body was obstructed, I reached in my pocket and gave a couple barks while watching him and he popped his head around for a shot. Seems handy if all else fails. Forgot to get a decent pic, this is a pic I sent my wife of some mushrooms, he's in the back. 1 for team #7

Still sounds great, and they are effective under the right circumstances and the right time. I've had squirrels travel to the tree I was under and sometimes come down the trunk to check out the "squirrel" they heard chattering.

Liked mine, but lost it sometime over the years. Don't know if in the woods or hidden away "where I won't forget where I put it".

I better pick up the slack. Hard to do when the fish are biting and the garden is kicking out more tomatoes than I know what to do with.
I will pick up the pace though. Deer blind is now poison ivy free-ish. So I am ready.
Anyone seeing any honeys or sheepshead yet?

Score 2 more for team #1 LCB. Beautiful morning in the woods. Saw 2 turkeys getting out of the truck, heard over a dozen squirrels barking, and got snorted off by a deer! Actually saw 3 squirrels, and shot 2, both head shots. Nothing like taking 2 wks., to kill a 1 day limit..... Both squirrels were old, but this ole geezer was on Social Security! He was a barkin'[ cussin' me out], that's how I found him.

Looks like some old chanterelle mushrooms to me. Yes sir! Yesterday was the first time I've tried them. Sauteed with some butter and garlic, they were delicious.
1 more for team #7. One time I'll remember to take a decent pic.

I'm not versed in fall mushroom id, but I've been looking at pics of Hen of the Woods, Chicken of the Woods, Chanterelles, and Honey Mushrooms and I'm pretty sure I walked by a LOT of Honeys yesterday!

Score 1 more for Team #1 LCB. Brings me up to 6, so far, for the season. Couple of interesting things happened this am. First, I always chamber a round, as I'm walking into the woods. The 1st one this am, I leaned against a tree, lined the cross hairs on his head, annndd ....CLICK! I forgot to chamber one this am. By the time I got it done, the lil' critter took off.....danged old age.... Then, I'm heading to the truck, and I see one jumping thru the trees. I ease up and set for 1/2 hr., no limb chicken. I'm getting about ready to quit, so I dug out my Mr. Squirrel call, and blew on it a few times. Low and behold, he come running down the tree 15 yds. away, barking his head off. Soo I lined up on him, and knocked him out of the tree. First time I ever had ANY squirrel call work. It was AWESOME!!

Not in the contest, but a proud dad moment nonetheless. This is my sons first kill all on his own. He walked a little ways down our back woods and killed this squirrel. I helped him clean it, but now he is back down there wanting more and he said he’s doing the next one all on his own. Fine by me!
