Not in the contest, but a proud dad moment nonetheless. This is my sons first kill all on his own. He walked a little ways down our back woods and killed this squirrel. I helped him clean it, but now he is back down there wanting more and he said he’s doing the next one all on his own. Fine by me! I just couldn't imagine a finer feeling or being more proud.

Chalk up 2 more grays for Team 1 LCB. No wind this evening had me unable to resist taking out that new Umarex Gauntlet .177 pellet rifle. Ok, now that was fun! That thing is quieter than my bow! Second squirrel never stopped eating when I dropped the first one. Shots were estimated at 20 yards. This thing is going to the deer stand with me!! Personal count is now 17.

I've looked at the gauntlet myself. Seen where pyramid air has the 177 on sale. Did the 177 put em down pretty good?

Both were head shots and they were both lights out like with a rimfire through the noggin! I was impressed. The one on the right was complete penetration and the one on the left was in just below the left eye, through the neck, between the shoulders and pellet was under the skin on the right side of the back. Edit to add: It is punching holes through an old license plate hanging on the neighbor's back fence at 37 yards with a Crosman 9.3 grain hp pellet.

I'm having to do a catch up last Sunday morning I was out while it was sprinkling & shot this one & put it in a bag to keep it dry. But right after shooting the 2nd one it cut loose & stated pouring. I didn't bring rain gear & had to run back to the truck before recovering my squirrel. After the rain had stopped I did a search for my downed squirrel & it had floated off so I tracked it down. I found it floating in a small pond of water. It looks like a drown rat but it's a squirrel. LOL Yesterday evening I took two from the same area but no rain this time. LOL So that's 4 more for team # 8 Squirrel Busters

I better pick up the slack. Hard to do when the fish are biting and the garden is kicking out more tomatoes than I know what to do with. I will pick up the pace though. Deer blind is now poison ivy free-ish. So I am ready. Anyone seeing any honeys or sheepshead yet? Looks like some of those Honeys followed me home? Look like them to me, but again, not familiar with fall mushrooms. Used to be a tree here in the yard. First time for these coming up here. And no, I am too cheap to have the yard treated. How old is too old for Honeys?

Add 2 more to team 3, The Fuzzytail Bandits. I saw 2 other small ones, either grays, pineys or chipmunks, not sure which, running around but I couldn't get a shot. A half hour after I got there and got these,it started raining so I called it a morning. In my older age I'm getting a little picky about my hunting weather conditions .

5 more for Team 1 LCB. 4 Gray and 1 Fox. Forecast was for some wind again today, so I walked an old Hedge (Osage) row this morning that has a few Hickory scattered along now and then. Usually find Grays running all over the Hedges without stopping for rifle shot opportunities. So I brought along my first squirrel getter that I was given 40 years ago by Mom and Dad. It is an H&R Topper .410. Shooting on the Hedge row can be pretty close, so the old Topper is a great choice for this spot. But you have to be REALLY close to head shoot one. 😄 Personal total is now 22.

Score 1 more for Team #1 LCB. Took my ole single shot for a woods run, this am. Saw 3, shot at 2, and nailed this big ole girl. Brings me up to 7 so far, for the season.

Those HONEY mushrooms are just about beyond taking, I would pass. I did. When I find some that aren't so big and split I will give them a shot frying the caps.

5 more for Team #1 LCB. Went to a spot I have never been to before and it was crawling with grays. 3 out of the 5 started moving when I was breaking the shot, so placement wasn't ideal. Personal count is now 27.

Deadeer decided to sleep in this morning because of the rain, and as usual the weather dudes were wrong. Rain didn't start here until 8:15 am. I didn't go because I had to get stuff done before the rain started but I was in the house at 9 when a Red Squirrel started fussing in the Blue Spruce right outside the front of the house. They have a history of getting into houses somehow here in this area, so they are on the "Shoot on sight" list. I grabbed the 17 HMR, slid open the upstairs window and nailed it. I don't know if anybody would appreciate the picture so I won't post it, but the exit hole is about the size of a silver dollar. It was only about 15 feet away and I was shooting thru the branches of the tree...
So, I guess that means that I'm on the board! I will go out later, they have really been hitting the hickories here.

Got two for team five, didn’t get any pictures before they went into the slow cooker. Funny how the old cat I got doesn’t want anything to do with anything but chicken, but our new kitten could get the liver and heart in her mouth fast enough. The misses must be spoiling the old girl a bit more than usual
