Deer Survey – Buck for youth hunt
I thought it would be interesting to see how the Hunting-Indiana.com members responded to the INDR Deer Regulation Survey.
I'll follow this up with the other questions.
Fifth question....
In Indiana, the special youth deer season is held prior to the start of the early archery season. Would you support or oppose allowing a youth hunter to take an antlered or antlerless deer during the special youth deer season? If that deer is antlered, then it would be the only antlered deer that he/she could take that fall.

I strongly support youths being able to take a buck during youth weekend..... I don't understand why they were denied the opportunity in the first place..... why give them a special weekend to hunt and then not allow them to take a buck if it offers them a shot?

Why not? If they get the chance of a lifetime they should be allowed to take it. It's not like they are not being monitored...

I can't think of a reason why they shouldn't be able to shoot a buck if the opportunity presents itself. They are kids! Kids get hooked by being successful. We should give them every opportunity to be successful that we can.
I am curious to hear the opinion of those opposed to this.

No good reason they shouldn't be allowed to take a buck.

Let the kids kill whatever they want and can.

I voted strongly for. Although, shooting a doe first does do a couple of things for a new hunter. A.) It shows the kids that they can kill a deer, no matter how smart they are. B.) It gets them into the way of thinking that it's ok, in fact, good to harvest does. $.02

Strongly for. Get the kids hooked in whatever way it takes as long as it's legal.

I "strongly support" the idea of allowing the youth the same opportunities that anyone else has.
The antlerless restriction was nothing more than a payoff to the groups that didn't support a youth season.

Definitely support .... and any adult that is found to be killing deer during youth season and putting a kids tag on it should loose their hunting privileges for a minimum of 5 years.

Yes lets revisit why it would be opposed?! I sure hope it's not because the kids would be killing the grown ups bucks.....and if it's because "Daddy" will kill the buck and tag it with the kids tag, couldn't that happen it the regular gun season to?

think it has a little more to do with shooting at deer with firearms before early archery, which could produce the same results as depridation. Regardless, it is for the youth and a good reason to compromise on both sides, which has been done.

I don't understand. What does shooting at deer with a gun before archery season have to do with letting a kid shoot either buck or doe?
