How did everyone do? I knew I would have a short hunt as we are meeting our daughter and granddaughters in Nashville for a Brown county day. I spooked some deer as I was getting near my stand and then had one snort as I was climbing my tree. Just as it was light enough to see good I had two eagles circling about 60 feet over head. I then had 4 does walk under my stand. A couple of minutes later I heard a burp burp burp and a small 5 pointer came in the same way the does did. A short time later I had 4 more does under my stand. I didn't raise my bow but plan to be in the same place next week with blood in my eyes. Saw lots of different warblers so all in all I would say I had a wonderful morning.

No eagles no deer one shot at a tree rat that was barking for over 1 hour. That is tourture in it's worst form. The rat finallly gave me a shot and I missed, but I bet he got a little shaved.
Saw a coon and a shooting star, enjoyed the morning. Sure felt good to be back int he woods.

Nada...
Unless I can count two bowhunters and one squirrel hunter.
The squirrel hutner was in the right woods as there weer 30 bazillion squirrels around me cutting acorns and hickorys. At least he was shooting a .22.
One bowhunter walked around a 150 yards in front of me shining his light like he was looking for a certain tree. That went on until almost shooting time.
Other than that - a very nice morning.

I sure would like to know where everyone is seeing so many Squirrels! I bet I've seen a grand total of 12 Squirrels thus far this season. <Tough Year!>

We just got through getting RE-organized for tomorrow mornings hunt. We went to Brown County today, had one doe come through about 8am...65-75 yards out. The quiver on my sons bow gave way on the trek in this morning, so we stopped by the NEW Gander Mountian in Greenwood on the way back home to get a new one.
Well,..... he wanted a new release too, and while we were there they had one of them ground blinds Ameristep "ROUNDHOUSE" with the TSC (total scent controll) feature on sale for $99.00 (reg. 199.00). We also did the archery shoot and hit a blue baloon for an additional 10% off the days purchases.
So we will be trying out our new blind in the morning.
P.S.
It was kinda a nerve racking morning for me......first "bow" hunt for my boy and it was the first time he sat alone in the woods...lol lol
Somehow, we only brought one flashlight and after getting him secured in his permanent tree stand, I took the light with me to find my spot. He had to sit alone IN THE DARK for almost an hour before the sun came up. I was tempted several times to sneak over and see what he was doing, but didn't want to scare any deer.
We'll be hunting togather in the morning in that new blind.

Went to pick up my buddy. realized when he threw his gear in the back of the truck that I had forgotten to put my stand in the truck. LOL. Supposed new batteries in the flashlight gave out 200 yrds from stand site. Dropped bow from stand cutting a limb out of the way. Dropped flashlight. Saw tons of tree rats, one turkey no deer. Still a great morning.

Skunked out this morning, saw one racoon, (2) beagle dogs and a covey of quail. Just picked the wrong stand. Had a little three pointer right under my stand this evening crunching acorns. That little guy needs to grow up a bit.
Big sneak attack planned for tomorrow AM. Will be hiking in a long way, early with a climber, to set up in a woodlot well in advance of daylight.
Sounds like I was lucky, as many folks had equipment snags and "bugs" in their plans. Pretty normal stuff for early in the season.

Well to dam hot! Got up for Geese this morning, sweat ing bullets. Came home for lunch and spend time with my daughter. Went back out for Deer at 3:00, sweating bullets again. Around 7:00 or so at least 12 Doe's and and couple little ones came out to eat fresh grass and some acorns, but they were just out of range and could hardly see thruogh my scope of my Exomag. No Bucks seen yet. Tommorow will be better I hope. ;D

Saw 5 different bucks and 1 doe this a.m. None of the bucks were shooters and none presented good shots. Best of the bunch was a 17" 8 pointer with a broken G3. The doe is currently at the butcher shop. This evening at a different spot saw 1 forked horn. By the way two of the bucks this a.m. squared off for about 40 seconds. They meant business. So, 30 minutes later I rattled/grunted and brought in a 6 pointer just out of bow range. Also the forkey tonight came in to investigate my horns. I know it's early and had no idea they would respond like that but they did. Now if old "Mossy-Horns" would just come ramblin' in........

PM...
I had 7 hen turkeys close, but not quite close enough.
One basket racked 6 pointer( no brow tines) came by and presented me with a 10 yard broadside.. no thanks..
He was either a good 1 1/2 year old or a poor 2 1/2 year old. I'd bet on him being the 1 1/2 year old.
It was a good evening...

I hunted one of my food plots this AM and had a small doe track me to the stand about 6:00am. Coyotes were howling while i was going to my stand.
Hunted a funnel between two woods this evening with a cornfield across the fence and saw four bucks. They all walked 8-10 yds from the stand but the biggest was a small eight. The two biggest bucks came back by trailing three does later on. I took a video camera and got the bucks on tape.
I almost got a shot at a coyote but being unorganized in the stand cost me the shot.
It was a great day. h.h.

Not much here....saw a few does this morning and a few more this evening, but no good shots were presented. I had some turkeys within about 35 yards of my stand tonight. I thought that was going to work out for a while but no shot there either. It was GREAT to be back in the woods again.
