Saw 11 this evening including one big bodied buck. Never got a real look at his rack as he was in a thicket and all I could see was white on his head. Would have taken a doe but never got a good open double lung shot at one. Had some decent shots but want to be real picky about the one I take. Had several broadside shots available on fawns. Will be back in that stand in the morning.

Robert, can I hunt your hammock opening day of shotgun? Please...?
Just kidding, sounds like you're due any day for a harvest. Good luck on Saturday.

So far this year my hunting has been limited due to having a pregnant wife at home who is due in a couple of weeks. I went out opening morning and hunted a stand that I had hung two weeks prior and promised myself that I was going to stay out of it until the end of October. I knew it would be good and had a perfect wind so I went anyway. It is a small secluded biologic plot in the middle of a section of woods. Around 7:30 deer started coming through and I saw close to 10 does and a nice 3 1/2 old nine pointer who stayed around my stand until 8:30 eating biologic and acorns from the tree I was in.
My next chance to hunt came on the following monday evening. I hunted a stand that is in a row of trees seperating two fields. The fields have rows of corn on both sides that are approximately 40 yards wide, with a plot of biologic on one side and beans on the other with the rest being CRP. It was hot and surprisingly I saw deer starting at about 5:00. Several does and 7 different bucks, with one being a 3 1/2 or 4 1/2 year old massive 8 point with long browtines. He never came close enough for a shot, which I kind of appreciated. Funny thing about this evening is I had several deer, including a nice 2 1/2 year old buck underneath my tree eating pignut hickory nuts. I don't think I have ever seen deer eat them before.
My last hunt was in the same tree on Thursday evening. I didnt see as many deer as before, which was strange since it was quite a bit cooler. Near dark I saw a fully mature buck come out of the corn and walk to the biologic. He was a seven point that was high and very massive. He had a very distinct double throat patch and had that big old buck swagger when he walked.
My hunting is probably done until the end of the month when I can sneak out between feedings. I'm anxious to see what is going to be moving when the rut rolls around.

Back in my stand this morning, saw 5. Two does and three small bucks. Was setting up to get a shot at one of the does when these guys came in and started sparring. When I finished watching these bucks I looked back where the does were and they were gone. Been a super y ear so far. Hey HH, I am thinking of putting the hammock on EBay, what do you think. ;D

Saw 6 does this morning. Killed 1 doe at a creek crossing about 30 minutes after killing a big coyote at same crossing (on the ground). This evening did not see a thing until I was walking to the truck (3 does and 1 smallish buck in a hayfield).

Had just a brute of a buck in on me last evening (Oct. 8th.). Tall, wide, & heavy. Came by about 1 hour before dark, and then again with about 8-10 minute of shooting light left. I did get drawn on him once, let down because I just couldn't get a great sight picture on him. I really need him to make about three steps more in the direction he was headed, but instead he turned and went over the edge of the finger I was setting on. I was on private ground, but he came out of an old clearcut on HNF. Man, I sure love this game.

We had a SUPER weekend of Bowhunting!
We went over to Fairbanks Landings (1st visit there) and I am HOOKED!!!!
We (2 adults & 1 child) seen over 30 deer (while hunting) and countless turkey (several flocks). Seen NO bucks and not very much buck sign....but we had LOTS of deer activity.
We had one small fawn get withing about 10 yards of our ground blind Sunday Morning, but the arrow fell off the rest when my 12 y/o started to pull back....(he needs lots of practice).

I saw two bucks and five does over the weekend. I could have shot either of the bucks but never had a chance at any of the does. The first buck was the same half-racked three pointer I saw opening weekend and this time I was able to see to determine that he did have a left pedicle. The other buck was a decent 2 1/2 yo eight point. I also started seeing a few serious rubs and scrapes.

Went back Sun. evening to the same area as Sat., moved my stand about 50 yards and had a ~17" 8 pointer with good tine length eating acorns at 12 yards. Came to full draw, placed the sight pin on "the spot" and let down. The buck Sat was much larger. Hoping to get crack at him.

We had our statewide youth hunt last weekend and my daughter woke up with a fever , sore throat and the rest of the junk thats been going around and we didnt go hunting . We were both disappointed but I told her early muzzleloader season is this weekend and we would go then . I didnt hunt at all ....just didnt seem right me going and she couldnt . She is a middleschooler and has been marching with our highschool band this year . Band competitions have kept me and her out of the woods a lot this year but the competitions are starting to wind down and honestly better hunting is yet to come as the rut nears . Weve watched many a sunrise and sunset the past few years together and she has a honest love of the outdoors . Guys....cant tell you how important it is to get those kids involved and the satisfaction you will receive to see their reactions to things we take for granted . Hope everyone is having a good season and wish everyone luck.
