I think Old Lady time changes us all. And our out look on why we hunt. I really experienced this in August. Had a bad scare with almost loosing my Dad in February. He recovered. And he has always loved squirrel hunting. He asked me to take him a few times. And I gladly did. Hunting squirrels with a rifle this year after several years off was eye opening. It took me bad to my childhood. Hunting tree rats with Dad. No worries of anything. Just enjoying the outdoors.

Iowa has the best deer hunting in the world. This is an undisputed fact. The reason Iowa has the best deer hunting in the world is because their firearms season is not in November. This is also a fact. You are here to just stir the pot. And that is ok my friend. I will play. Iowa is the king of big bucks. Greatest thing since sliced bread. We definitely need to get gun season out of the rut as you so hope for. Just to one up Iowa and make us the king of your horn porn. We will also remove archery from November as well. Let's save them all. Archery first two weeks of October. Firearms second two of October. Then a muzzleloader hunt first two weeks of December. Everything gets a even shake. You would surely support this plan of NO November hunting. Let's all do our part to save the bucks. Besides you surely don't need 3 months to kill a deer with your 80 percent let off compound. With adjustable sight and all the bells and whistles. You know as well as all of us. This is for the good of the trophy bucks. You do agree. Right?

Same here heck I would've made coffee and dropped you off 🙃 Have you met span870 ...imagine a mix between wet dog, old cope and flat rc cola with a hint of moldy corn flakes. With stories for days. Mostly about how bad 243 is for deer how walkers are inferior to Redbone but blue ticks are the best and just when you think it can't get any worse he starts with stories of band camp when he was 1st chair oboe and how none of the girls respected him....I give it 1 day and you'd move just in case he stumbles back. Your awful tough on my deer hunting buddy. Lol

Seems like if they're not running rabbits they're chasing deer. Good way for a dog to "not find his way home". Don’t be shooting anyone’s hunting dogs or pets….that’s against the law and will cost you time and money in court! Absolutely. We have talked about this several times. We will leave it at that.

Great! Let’s see him and hear the story! Well since I am not smart enough to post a picture. Here is the story. Had good action all morning. Seen several doe early. Then a spike came in to a bedding area that I had been watching. And the chase was on. The doe went every where seen at least 5 or 6. Then a 6 pointer joined the party. As things were settling down. Here came two more doe. One stopped. Looking behind her. All I could see was antlers coming down the creek looking up at the two doe. Looked to be a heavy rack and a thick neck. He spotted at around 75 yards. All I could see was neck and the front end of his shoulder. The crosshairs on base of neck and the Browning 3006 dropped him in his tracks. My son. Daughter in law and Granddaughter help get him out. It ended up being a buck we have had several pictures of this year. Blessed.

2 fawns. 2 mature doe. A 6 point. And a very nice (was) 8 pointer that broke his main beam around November 1st. We have had several pictures of him up to and after the broken rack. Both bucks have been by themselves cruising.

Shot my target buck at 6:35 am cst this morning. He was chasing a doe and I stopped him with a whistle, all I could see of him was his head and neck so he got a 25-06 in the neck and fell right over. As I’m climbing down another 10 point is watching me. This one is a 12 point with extra eye guards. Very nice buck. I also have a 2506. Haven't sighted it in yet. Shot it a few times last spring. Then did some scope swapping. And didn't redial it in. What is your opinion of it?

Guess ruts over? 4 young bucks all together, 3 spikes, small 6. Sparred little, all scent checked a scrape then feed on acorns b4 heading into cedar thicket to bed. 20 minutes later 6 does come by together ate a few acorns ,and went on way. Very few shots, less 10 so far. LOL, I think we still have a few days. History says we still do.

I actually believe the sub-dominated bucks will breed as many does no matter what rate the does actually will breed a buck. Not as many mature bucks breed as many does as hunters believe. Junior is slipping in and doing the deed a lot of the time! You are right on the money. Same with satellite bulls when we elk hunt. The herd bull is worked up trying to keep all his cows and chasing satellite bulls. So when he is chasing one off. Two others sneak in and steal a cow or two.

Only 3 shots so far. Only one some what close. A deer came by in total dark first thing couldn't make out what it was. Then two doe and two fawns. Then two more doe. Just no Mr. Right yet.

Man what a evening. Decided to possibly make my last set of the year for archery. Now its thunder stick time. Had deer all over me. All evening. Even drove out in my field to empty it so my son could get out of his stand. Bucks cruising. Bucks chasin. And grunting. Must of had a hot doe or possibly several of them that were seen. Best rut action all year. Just needed the Old warrior that we have had so many pictures of. Unfortunately he didn't come to the party tonight. So with that being said. Maybe one more day of archery before thunder stick.

A deer knocked my camera sideways and now all I'm getting is weeds moving around by the wind. I've only hunted 4 times but have seen bucks all 4 times. 3 shooters. One was a dandy 10 pointer. Unfortunately I took a tumble on my front porch and I think I've got one or two broken/cracked ribs I'm having trouble getting in and out of my car, so I'm doubting I can climb into a stand. Going to get it checked out today. Woodmaster will be hunting there this weekend and hopefully by Monday I'll feel better and be able to climb. I’ll be there in the 18th even if I have stand on the ground by my stand. Good luck to you all! Take care Woody. Hopefully just bruised and sore. Broken or cracked ribs are no fun. Very painful and slow healing.

Well we are on the board. What a SLOW opener for the season. Saturday we scratched out 3 Wood ducks and 2 more on Sunday. Seen very few this weekend. But still nice to get 3 generations out together.
